Willow Smith DONS Vertical Stripes For Jada Pinkett's "From Slavery To Freedom" Event + Alicia Keys PERFORMS "Tears Always Win" On "American Idol"

Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow raised awareness for the anti-slavery movement last night.  Learn more about their cause inside and see Alicia Keys perform on "American Idol."

 photo cast3.jpg

Last night, Jada Pinkett hosted the 15th Annual From Slavery to Freedom Event. The evening honored business leaders, volunteers, donors and students who are invested in social and systemic changes that aim to end modern-day slavery. You'll recall that Jada has done several PSAs about human trafficking and other forms of modern-day slavery as the issue is close to her heart.

 photo cast1.jpg

Jada's fashionably eccentric daughter, Willow, supported her at the event, held at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles.  The younger Smith turned heads on the red carpet in a stripped pantsuit with a cropped leather jacket and bowler hat.

 photo cast2.jpg

Jada, who wore a salmon-colored trouser suit, was also supported by singer Nicole Scherzinger, who attended in a sexy white slash-neck midi dress, which she belted at the waist.

After the event, Jada continued her efforts to raise awareness, tweeting her followers, "The #antislavery stats matter b/c they represent real people. We need to share stories that show stats AND dignify survivors. #DSBChat.'"

In other news about Jada, she's set to produce a romantic drama called Salsa, starring the William Levy, who's known as "the Cuban Brad Pitt."

And in television performances....

Alicia Keys appeared on "American Idol" last night where she sang "Tears Always Win".  Apparently, the singer was a nervous before she hit the stage to performed the Bruno Mars-penned tune tweeting, “Looking at the audience is giving me butterflyz!!!. Feels like I’m trying out for the show too!!!”  But Ms. Keys had no need to worry, her vocals were amazing and we're sure she got America's vote!

KISS OFF: Judge Halts Kobe's Mom From AUCTIONING OFF Kobe's Memorabilia

Posted: 10 May 2013 06:55 AM PDT

 photo ScreenShot2013-05-10at74558AM.png

Kobe Bryant's mother, Pamela Bryant, may never see the big payoff she was hoping for now that a judge has put a "time out" on the auction of her son's memorabilia.  Get the deets on the new development inside....

Kobe Bryant's legal team scored a slam dunk, this week, after a judge halted his mom's plans to sell his basketball memorabilia at auction.  If you'll recall, Kobe filed a lawsuit on his mother and Goldin Auctions to stop them from selling off his ish.  He said she was only selling his vintage memorabilia that was left at her house because he wouldn't give her money for an expensive new house.  And this is ow she was going to get that cash.  He also claims she STOLE some items from him as well.

Kobe's mom claims he gave up rights to the items.

TMZ reports that a judge issued a temporary restraining order against Goldin Auctions which stops them from selling off Kobe's memorabilia until a full hearing can be held next Monday.

Since Kobe and his mom Pamela don't agree on who the stuff belongs to, it looks like a judge will decide who gets to keep everything.  Kobe & his parents have had a rocky relationship ever since he married Vanessa, but who knew it would come to this?

The Randomness:

1.  With head honcho Anna Wintour rumored to not be a Kardashian fan in the least bit, VOGUE shaded the hell out of Kim Kardashian by deliberately cropping her out of a picture with Kanye, who they put on the 2013 Met Ball Best Dressed list on their website.  WOMP.  STORY

YBF PREMIERE: Sevyn Streeter Covers Aaliyah's "Come Over"

Posted: 10 May 2013 05:10 AM PDT

Sevyn Streeter, one of Chris Brown's newest talented artists on his CBE label, is proving to the masses that her pipes are worthy to be listened to.  She covered the late Aaliyah's "Come Over."  So decide inside if you're loving it...

This 26-year-old Florida native isn't new to the music scene, but she is new to the solo scene.  Now that she's making her solo debut after her time in the group RichGirl, Sevyn's proving why she's a fresh face we've gotta watch.

Since Aaliyah was one of her biggest musical inspirations growing up, Sevyn recently recorded a cover for the late singer's song "Come Over."

While recently out on a promo tour, Sevyn made a trip to Aaliyah’s high school in Detroit and saw how much impact one artist can have on generations to come.  So she penned an open letter to Aaliyah (which she posted on her site) about how big of an inspiration the singer was to her.  She said in part:

"You made us feel comfortable in our own skin...we feel just as comfortable in our sweats and sneakers as we do in our jeans and heel....Putting in the Dr. Doolittle soundtrack--and learning the choreography to "Are You That Somebody" on the porch....That's what you did.  You made us all feel like we were good enough to be you."

Check out the rest over on her website and a pic below:

And we've got the exclusive premiere of Sevyn's cover of "Come Over" below.  And we think even true Aaliyah fans would be impressed:

Erykah Badu Does HILARIOUS Interview With Kendrick Lamar + Alicia Keys Writes To Judge To Save Lauryn Hill...& Lauryn Says Thanks

Posted: 09 May 2013 09:00 PM PDT

 photo kendrickerykah_zps2d0a3d04.jpg

Erykah Badu switched jobs for a day to work for Interview magazine.  And her first subject...is hot rapper Kendrick Lamar.  Check out what she asked him about how he chooses groupies, who he's scared of having his business out there and more...

In the latest issue of Interview magazine, Erykah Badu plays reporter and interviews "Swimming Pools" rapper Kendrick Lamar about his cereal, his groupies and more.  But our fave answer?  His insightful comment about what he envies about women.  This could be the reason chicks love his music so much.

Here are the highlights from their Interview chit chat:

BADU: How do you choose chicks from backstage?
LAMAR: How do I choose chicks from backstage?
BADU: Yeah, what is the protocol?
LAMAR: I try not to. [laughs] I’m too scared. Anybody who knows me knows that I’m probably the most scared person when it comes to that because I’m so caught up in the act of sex, of something going crazy, going out of my control. I’m too paranoid.
BADU: [laughs] So you just pass?
LAMAR: I’ve got to because I’ve seen a situation where it got totally out of hand, where something seemed so innocent, and now this person has got allegations on them. It spooked me. This was before my career really started, though—before any “Kendrick Lamar.” And that right there? It changed my whole perception about certain things. I’ll always keep that in the back of my head.

BADU: So who is your asshole-checker?
LAMAR: Who is my what?
BADU: Your asshole-checker—the person in your crew or your family who let’s you know if you’re being a asshole.
LAMAR: I have two, actually. [both laugh] But the main one is a friend of mine—a lady friend who has known me since high school. She has always been someone, since day one, who has said something whenever I’m an asshole, or also if I’m doin’ something positive—but more so when I’m out of my element.

BADU: What’s your favorite cereal?
LAMAR: Fruity Pebbles. When people ask for my rider, they think I’m crazy: Fruity Pebbles, baked chicken, bottle of Hennessy, and some Polo socks.

BADU: What do you, as a man, envy about what it means to be a woman?
LAMAR: There’s just a certain knowledge instilled in a woman. There are these things that women have that men just can’t grasp: the understanding of love; the understanding of being; having a certain type of care in your heart and knowing when to be compassionate; knowing how to be a confidante…
BADU: That’s a good perspective. Something I envy that men have is that ability to grow a goatee. I think that’d be really hot on me.

And one of the only normal questions:

ERYKAH BADU: Can you describe how it feels to be in this cyclone of good fortune that you're experiencing right now? How are you handling all of it?

KENDRICK LAMAR: I always thought money was something just to make me happy. But I've learned that I feel better being able to help my folks, 'cause we never had nothing. So just to see them excited about my career is more of a blessing than me actually having it for myself. My folks ain't graduated from high school or nothing like that, so we always had to struggle in the family—and I come from a big family. But as far as me handling this, it's a weird feeling because it's like a blur right now. I think my worst problem is actually living in the moment and understanding everything that's going on. I feel like I'm in my own bubble. People tell me all the time, "You're crazy, going there by yourself," because it wouldn't have soaked in yet that I'm supposed to be quote "Kendrick Lamar"—whoever this guy's supposed to be. I still feel like me. So it's really about me trying to adapt—that's like the toughest thing for me right now. I feel like I'm in my own world.

Meanwhile.....

Some singers are reaching out on Lauryn Hill's behalf to make pleas to her judge in her tax evasion case.  And on her Tumblr, Lauryn pointed out both Alicia Keys & Stevie (as well as the name of each fan who reached out) as being two of the celebs going to bat for her:

"I want to extend a sincere thank you to the following people, who wrote letters to the judge on my behalf: Linda Banks, Edison, NJ Davonne Breedlove Binna Choi, Beijing, China Hafiz Farid, East Orange, NJ Miriam Anne Banks Farrakhan, Union, NJ Vincent Gardner, New York, NY Michael Green, Fair Bluff, NC Elitta Harden, Ft Worth, TX Mrs. Valarie Hill, South Orange, NJ Maureen Hogan, Jersey City, NJ Walter Jones, New York, NY Alicia Keys Elena Lau, Toronto, Canada Jerald Miller, New York, NY Tracy Morris, Jacksonville Beach, FL Elise Munoz, France Bunmi Olukoya, Laurel, MD Jimmie Pierre, Trenton, NJ Cherisse Pittman Gabrielle Fulton Ponder, Atlanta, GA Dominique Reese, Oakland, CA Chris Schwartz, Philadelphia, PA Ashley Scott, Brooklyn, NY Derek Singletary, Astoria, NY Dr. Sara Tai, Manchester, UK Suzette Williams, Teaneck, NJ Lisa Willis, Philadelphia, PA Stevie Wonder Jonathan Wunderlich, Cabarete, DR"

Sweet.

And she expressed her gratitude to all her supporters:

"And thank you Jerald Miller, for taking the initiative to put this together. I also want to thank all of my family, friends, business associates, and fans who have called, emailed, sent texts, and posted messages of concern, encouragement, and support. I appreciate the well wishes, and I thank you for your prayers. Also, to anyone who may have written letters that we did not know about, thank you also, all of you. I will have more to say soon, but did not want to further delay expressing my appreciation. Thank you again, MLH"

Evelyn Lozada Reveals How Her Daughter Shaniece Helped Her Through Her DOMESTIC ABUSE Scandal

Posted: 09 May 2013 04:04 PM PDT

 photo cover_Evelyn_web-650x824.jpg

In the latest issue of ROLLING OUT, Evelyn Lozada reveals how her daughter Shanice helped her through the roughest time in her life.  Read their story and see the hot mom & daughter pics inside....

 photo roez6.jpg

In a special Mother's Day edition of Rolling Out, "BBW" star Evelyn Lozada posed for a mother-daughter spread with her 20-year-old daughter Shaniece, where they discussed being best friends and leaning on each other for support.  Evelyn said,

“We are always together, and even when one of us is away, [we're] constantly check in with each other. But that’s how it has always been between us since the beginning. Even though I had her young, I always made sure that she knew I was mom, but that she could also come to me and confide in me about anything."

Evelyn also revealed how Shaniece was her comforter through the Chad Ochocinco domestic abuse scandal.  Here are the highlights:

Shaniece, as you reflect on the relationship that you have with your mother, can you think of a time when you were really proud of her, and were proud that she was your mother?

Shaniece: When she left her domestic abuse relationship, I was really proud of her. I felt like she stood up for herself, and I think that she set a good example for other women. I knew that she had it in her, but I don’t think that everyone else did, so I’m really proud of her for that.

Before this moment, have you let her know how proud of her you are for that?

Shaniece: Yeah, she knows … and we’ve been together since then.

Evelyn: We were literally together for eight months since that happened [crying] … I even slept with her. After everything happened, and my life was upside down, it was tough because I had to live all of that out in the public … everybody had an opinion, and even now I’m sure there will be some people who say “b—-, you’re still crying over that?” … but she went through that with me from the beginning. She went to the hospital with me.

Shaniece: It was crazy, because I wasn’t even supposed to be there. I was living in L.A. and she was living in Miami, and I just happened to be there when it happened.

Evelyn: She was on vacation, and she was home when the situation happened, and it was very humiliating for me to have her see me like that. It was probably one of the biggest low points of my life — especially because I’m so protective of her. I’m mom, and I’m supposed to be strong, so it was hard to have her see me like that … so we were literally connected at the hip from that point on.

Shaniece: I think that it made us closer. Strangely, I didn’t think that we could get any closer, but I think that the situation made us grow closer.

Angela Simmons has joined Bow Wow to co-host "106 & Park for the rest of the week.  And the former couple kicked off their co-hosting stint last night.

Looks like the viewers didn't get enough of Angela reuniting with her ex Bow Wow the last time she was on the show.  because she was asked back to co-host for the rest of the week while Paigion, Shawty Da Prince & Miss Mykie are on vacation.

 photo kreu1_zpsa4ca5f30.jpg

Rocking a sexy black leather flirty mini dress and white T-strap wedges, Angela kept it cute while having some fun with her homie (former) lover friend.  And on the gossip tip: We're hearing that if all goes well with ratings during Angela's 3-day test on the show, a permanent change may be made that keeps her on the show as a co-host.  No word on how that will affect the other three.

The twosome interviewed the champ, Floyd Mayweather, and had some fun with the audience.  Check out their full episode below:

[EDITOR'S NOTE: The story about Jay-Z's global water crisis tour has been removed. The original source for the story was Billboard.com. Billboard's Editor has since spoken out saying there was a mixup on Billboard's end with the date/time on the article being changed, which led websites to believe this was a new article and tour, but the story is actually from 2006. There is not a new tour happening.]

*UPDATED* RUMOR CONTROL: "American Idol" SHOCKER -- ALL The Judges FIRED?! A Source Says It's NOT True (And Mariah's Got A New Album & New Manager On The Way!)

Posted: 09 May 2013 02:23 PM PDT

 photo 179925_zps22e4d77d.jpg

Uh oh!  Looks like all the cattiness between the "American Idol" judges has backfired.  Because word on the internet streets...is that all four judges are allegedly getting the boot next season.  The shocking deets inside...

When reps for everyone involved either don't return calls or decline to comment all together, that means something's up.  Entertainment site The Wrap reports their inside source says "Idol" producers are done with the continuous drop in ratings, and they're ready to gain their core audience back.  That means firing all four current judges for a clean slate.

"All four are gone," the insider told TheWrap. "They feel they've lost their core audience and they want it back...No more big checks for divas."

And despite Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban all having options to return in their contracts, Fox reportedly will NOT be picking them up.  Womp.

Nicki and her $12 million will have to find someone else to give growling faces to.  Because Mariah's $18 million "Idol" diva self is also out of there, supposedly.

The Wrap says Fox declined to comment and the judges' reps didn't return calls for statements.  But our own very credible source close to the situation tells us this is all untrue.  We're told no one has been fired (at least not yet) and, in fact, the judges have only discussed their return (and not their exit) with Fox execs.

Time will tell.

Meanwhile, in some "coincidental" timing, Mariah's new video was just given the greenlight to premiere during an upcoming episode of "Idol."  But it was also announced today that her co-star, Randy Jackson, was just dropped as her manager.   Double womp.

Randy signed on as her manager in 2011, after working with her in other ways since the 90's.  And both say their split was amicable and due to hectic schedules.  But both will probably have one less show on their plates next year.

Reportedly, MiMi has now signed on with Alicia Keys' management.

And another "coincidence"--Alicia is performing her brand new single "Tears Always Win" tonight on "Idol."  Go figure...

*UPDATE* Randy Jackson has just confirmed he is, in fact, leaving the show.  He tells E! News this 12th season will be his final one:

"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season...I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”

Good luck Randy!

NEW MUSIC: The Dream & Jay-Z's "High Art"

Posted: 09 May 2013 01:45 PM PDT

 photo ScreenShot2013-05-08at75448PM_zps828d87a4.png

The Dream just dropped a new track with his homie Jay-Z.  Check out their "High Art" inside...

As Terius "The Dream" Nash prepares to drop his IV Play album (May 28th), he's released another hot single from the project.  This one is called "High Art" and it features Mr. Carter.

The trap-inspired autotuned track is bass heavy and strictly for riding around the city this summer with lines like:

"I make love to my girl/I get high with my n-ggas"

Dream said today on a press call today that he wanted to have fun with this track and it was "mind boggling" to him that he never asked Jay for a feature.  So, they teamed up for "High Art".  And he says it wasn't easy to get done:

"I worked my f*ckin' ass off on this album.  Getting superstars to do your album while you're doing those superstars' albums, it's hard to get people to do things.  Whether it's doing a last minute trip to Paris to do something with Beyonce or catch Jay as soon as he flies back in town...

I'm the first artist in Atlanta to get Bey & Jay-Z on the same album, they've never appeared on another artist's studio album together before.  That was me just paying my dues."

The Dream, who's also the new EVP of A&R at Def Jam, said at a recent listening session about this upcoming album, "Y'all are gonna wanna f*ck."  Pretty much sums up most of his albums.  And we're sure this one won't disappoint.

Check out "High Art" below:

ON THE SET: Kanye West FILMS Scenes For "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" + OMG GIRLZ Drop "BADDIE" (Single)

 photo ScreenShot2013-05-09at125830PM.png

Kanye West headed down to Atlanta to film with the crew of Anchorman 2 yesterday.  See the pic inside and listen to the OMG Girlz single "Baddie".

After previewing new music at the 2013 MET Ball earlier this week, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian hopped a flight to Atlanta, GA where he turned up on the set of Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

Sources in Atlanta say Kanye West was joined on set by his pregnant girlfriend as he filmed scenes for the sequel in Woodruff Park.  And apparently, he's a huge fan of Will Ferrell.  After spending a few hours on set, Kim flew back to LA to continuing filming her reality show.

In addition to Kanye,  Will Smith is also making a cameo in the film. The Will Ferrell-helmed sequel is set to open in theaters on December 20th.

And in new music....

The OMG Girlz are back with a new track call "Baddie".  Though the Atlanta based group are baddies in the studio, they've managed to be "goodies" in the classroom.

The group recently performed at Stony Point High School in Austin, Tx where they gave the kids some good advice about school.  “School has always come before our careers,” Beauty said. “Our parents instilled that in us. We always have to do our homework before rehearsals. It’s all about being disciplined.”

Good message for the kids.

SPEAK ON IT: Folks Are PISSED That BET Founder Bob Johnson Wanted His Daughter To Marry A "Gentleman"....While He "Pushed" Thugs & "Non Gentlemen" On Other Young Women Through BET

Posted: 09 May 2013 11:44 AM PDT

 photo paige-johnson-bob-johnson.jpg

When the founder of BET, Bob Johnson, walked his daughter Paige Johnson down the aisle to marry a white man, it stirred some mixed emotions among those who couldn't help noticing what they called "the irony" of the situation. SPEAK ON IT inside.....

Businessman Bob Johnson and his ex-wife Sheila became billionaires after founding Black Entertainment Television.  With a life-story that's a true blend of capitalism and the American dream, the couple went on to provide a fabulous life for themselves and their children.

And last week, the couple's daughter Paige, an equestrian champion WHO'S been featured in Town & County, went on to marry an insurance broker with a really fancy sounding name, Dudley Payne III.  Now...we're not saying she should have married a black man...but it's interesting...that she didn't.

The blog beyondblackwhite.com put it nicely,

This is the ultimate irony. Bob Johnson, co-founder of BET, a vehicle that has single-handedly tarnished the name of black American women all over the world, wants a “gentleman” for his daughter. Funny, because he’s made his fortune convincing black women that thugs, drug dealers, and gold teeth should be the standard of sexiness and allure for us mere-mortal regular black chicks.

And you'll recall that Bob had this to say about his son-in-law.  “This guy is the perfect guy for Paige...He’s a true gentleman.”

Beyondblackwhite.com went on to offer,

Take a goooooood look at the last paragraph. Mr. Johnson said that this WHITE INSURANCE BROKER IS THE PERFECT GUY FOR HIS DAUGHTER. I’ve said this before on other issues but it bears repeating like a broken record on a Victrola: Be careful of those who advocate a lifestyle on others that they would never desire for themselves. Do you think Jay-Z is going to want his precious little Blu Ivy gallivanting with the progeny of his homeboys? Doubt it.

Bob Johnson may very well have been "ok" with Paige marrying a Donnie Simpson type (for the older BET viewers) or perhaps a TJ Holmes type (for the younger crowd), or would he?

And with all of the controversy that's surrounded BET over the past two decades with the images and stereotypes of Black people that it's helped perpetuate, are folks right in feeling some type of way about Bob walking his daughter down the aisle into the arms of "the perfect" white man?

Loretta Devine came out to support and looked nice for the occasion.  Wish she would have chosen a different scarf though.

The much anticipated film Baggage Claim, complete with an ensemble cast, has released its first trailer.  Check out the preview inside...

Paula Patton stars as flight attendant "Montana Moore" in the brand new David Talbert comedy flick Baggage Claim.  And everybody and their mama is in this movie.  The plot:

Pledging to keep herself from being the oldest and the only woman in her entire family never to wed, Montana embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé.

Hotties like Taye Diggs, Trey Songz and Boris Kodjoe play just a few of Paula's exes in the movie.  While LaLa Anthony, Affion Crockett, Jill Scott, Adam Brody and more play TSA workers, her flight attendant friends and agents.  Lauren London plays her sister who is getting married and Jenifer Lewis is their hilarious mom.

Also starring in the flick: Christina Milian, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Luke, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Terrence J. (as Lauren London's man) and more.

The movie, with an $8.5 million budget, hits theaters September 27th.  And it may be the typical RomCom about a thirty-something rushing and stressing to find a man since all her family and friends are getting married, but we'll still be right there watching.  Sue us.

Check out the brand new trailer above.
