Celebrity Lookalikes: Jon Stewart And Punk Bassist Alford Faulkner Posted: 30 Jan 2012 10:37 AM PST A photo has been going around the internet that’s supposedly of The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart diving into the pit at a Dead Kennedys show in Richmond, VA in 1982. While the guy in the photo does look a great deal like a young Jon Stewart, it’s actually bassist Alford Faulkner, of Red Cross and The Prevaricators. Faulker confirmed on Saturday that it’s him in the photo, not Jon Stewart. The resemblance really is uncanny, though: At least in that picture. Another photo of Faulkner shows him looking somewhat less Stewart-esque: But if you’re saddened that your tumbls of “I want to marry/befriend him” are now moot, don’t be. Jon Stewart did indeed go to punk shows in the 80s, as this documentary would attest. Just not this particular one, that we know of. Given the man’s flair for self-deprecation, I can only hope this will make it into a Daily Show segment, preferably with Faulkner as a special guest. I can’t wait to see what jokes Stewart makes about mosh pits and his frail, nebbishy self. (Via The Daily What) Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Elton John Is Still Mad At Madonna Posted: 30 Jan 2012 10:14 AM PST Elton John can’t seem to let his little tiff with Madonna go. Though it’s been two weeks since Madonna took home the Golden Globe for best original song Elton thought she couldn’t possibly win he still doesn’t seem to be over the unjust victory. On Good Morning America Elton offered Madonna a tip to help her with her Superbowl half-time performance this Sunday: “Make sure you lip-sync good.” Yikes, passive aggressive and grammatically incorrect. It’s like his rage clouded his sentence structure skills. Bringing up lip-synching means that Elton isn’t stewing over a two-week old fight, he’s drudging up accusations he first let fly eight years ago; he first accused Madonna of pulling a Milli-Vanilli in 2004. I guess an Elton John never forgets. As a father Elton might want to learn to let bygones be bygones. Otherwise he’ll end up teaching his son Zachary, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all, unless it’s about Madonna. That hack needs be taken down a few pegs.” Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
First Look: James Franco Makes A Good Hugh Hefner Posted: 30 Jan 2012 09:15 AM PST While some casting decisions for the upcoming Linda Lovelace movie Lovelace seem to be changing daily, James Franco is already donning his velvet top and puffy hair-do to portray Hugh Hefner in the film. The swoopy hair actually seems to suit him. I think he should adopt it as his official literary style, wearing it to all his book signings and deep creative thinking sessions (which I believe he schedules weekly). What looks at first like Hugh’s signature smoking jacket on closer examination seems to be a furry paisley V-neck, which seems like an interesting and still convincing costume choice. I’m guessing the white scarf is a James rather than a Hugh accessory, because it seems to scream actor rather than Playboy, but I hope they do use it in the movie, it really completes the ensemble. As far as portraying Hugh I think more than an outfit it’ll be the attitude that will make James’ performance seem lifelike or fall flat, and while it’s hard to tell in a still photo, it looks like James is ready to walk like a man with the keys to the Playboy Mansion. Crushable Quotable: Jennifer Lawrence Compares Kim Kardashian’s Divorce To The Hunger Games Posted: 30 Jan 2012 08:48 AM PST Perhaps the most astonishing thing about Kim Kardashian‘s quickie divorce from Kris Humphries is that she has two well-respected actresses in her corner. A few months ago, Olivia Wilde – also licking her wounds from a recent divorce — said that people shouldn’t blame or judge Kim for “taking a risk.” And now, The Hunger Games‘ Jennifer Lawrence has also offered up some support to Kim. Not surprisingly, Jennifer has a keener view than most about reality TV: Suzanne Collins‘ Hunger Games books are about kids forced to fight to the death in a nationally televised event where their alliances are scrutinized and the rich Capitol citizens can send the tributes gifts if they’re feeling merciful. (Often they enjoy watching the kids die of thirst or backed into a corner and hacked to pieces with sharp weapons.) So, Jennifer has a new appreciation for the subjects of reality television; and being a 21-year-old, she’d probably reach for the Kardashian family as an easy reference. She told Contact Music,
I have to wholeheartedly agree with Gather that Jennifer just did Kim a huge favor by painting her as the victim of ratings-hungry networks and enabling viewers. Because I still have a soft spot for Kim when she cries about how she jumped into marriage because she thought she was truly in love. I would never have condoned her lavish wedding, but maybe she had to go through that to fully understand the stakes of her poor decision-making. I think it’s safe to say the country reviles her even more than we did when she was just a pretty girl in Ray J‘s sex tape. I’m curious to see if Jennifer might retract her statement after watching last night’s season finale of Kourtney and Kim Take New York. In the episode, Kim comes across as a child trying to ignore a problem until it goes away, as opposed to a mature adult willing to talk through the rough patch in her new marriage. Because there’s a huge difference between Katniss volunteering to compete in the Hunger Games to save her little sister Prim, and Kim volunteering to have her life documented and be an asshole on live TV. Video: Here’s The Full Version Of Matthew Broderick’s Ferris Bueller Honda Superbowl Ad Posted: 30 Jan 2012 08:53 AM PST Following a mysterious teaser released a few days ago, the full version of Matthew Broderick‘s Ferris Bueller themed Superbowl ad is here. As suspected, it’s for Honda. The clip follows Broderick as he plays hooky from his present day job as an actor to tool around town in his Honda CR-V, doing such classically truant-y things as riding a roller coaster, running around a museum, and betting on a racehorse. He even sings in a parade like he did in the original John Hughes movie! Naturally, the commercial contains many Bueller-related “Easter eggs” for those sharp eyed enough to spot them, including, but not limited to: the flower delivery guy, the guy in a trench coat playing clarinet, and a cameo from Grace (Rooney‘s secretary). Watch and see how many of them you can spot. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Posted: 30 Jan 2012 08:45 AM PST Katrina Bowden, best known as 30 Rock’s favorite intern Cerie is engaged. Katrina shared her news with the world during a pre-SAG awards interview, explaining her boyfriend Benjamin Jorgensen’s proposal was such a surprise she was too shocked and excited to remember to say yes saying, “I was so shocked I just said ‘Oh my god,’ and I hugged him. Then he said to me, ‘So is that yes?’ ” Apparently she eventually recovered enough to accept his proposal, which took place the night before the awards. Katrina seemed excited to show off her engagement ring on the red carpet, which really went well with her sleeveless white gown. It’s always a good sign when your friends like your fiance, and Katrina’s co-star Keith Powell (who plays Toofer on 30 Rock) seemed as enthusiastic about Benjamin as Katrina, calling him “the sweetest guy.” Benjamin is a musician who last put out an album in 2010, and though he seemed a little nervous on camera standing next to Katrina it was obvious they make an adorable couple. Congratulations to them both. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Rooney Mara Replaces Blake Lively In New Steven Soderbergh Film Posted: 30 Jan 2012 08:13 AM PST Steven Soderbergh‘s new addiction film Side Effects has replaced Blake Lively with Rooney Mara in the leading role, following finance problems triggered by the fact that Lively isn’t Oscar-y enough. Mara will play a pill-addicted young woman who uses various prescriptions to deal with her anxiety over her husband’s impending release from prison. Following her Oscar-nominated turn in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mara is almost definitely a better bet to play such a dark role, but I’m still sad I won’t get to see Serena Van Der Woodsen‘s hair and makeup go to shit as she rides the waves of various chemical highs. According to Deadline, it’s still uncertain whether this casting decision will be enough to get the previously gun shy Annapurna Pictures to finance it, but given the named involved, I’m sure someone will step in to provide the cast. Shooting is scheduled to begin in April. (Via Vulture) Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Check Out The Game Of Thrones Season 2 Teaser: ‘You Win Or You Die’ Posted: 30 Jan 2012 08:10 AM PST Although it’s only about a minute long, the new teaser for HBO‘s Game of Thrones hints at plenty of political intrigue for season 2. And plenty of consequences: The tagline is ”You Win or You Die.” I actually haven’t watched the show yet — it’s high up on my list of If I Had More Time shows — but even I can tell that shit is gonna go down this season. I’m most glad to see that there’s a lot of focus on Peter Dinklage‘s character Tyrion Lannister; no surprise, since Dinklage won an Emmy and Golden Globe for the role. He’s speaking with some sort of adviser, it looks like, who reminds him that “the shortest person casts the longest shadow.” But there’s also an interesting dynamic going on between the sadistic heir Joffrey Baratheon and his poor betrothed Sansa Stark, as he levels an arrow at her and muses about what message it would send if he killed her. The series returns on April 1; in the meantime, be sure to check out our guide to the new cast members. Showrunner David Benioff is excited but nervous about fans’ reactions after season 1 was such a hit. He recently told MTV News that season 2 will include “a lot of bloodshed, as they’re used to. More romance, I think, than season one. There are some great love stories starting up… It looks absolutely gorgeous. And the dragons are getting bigger!” Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
