Jodie Foster pens essay defending Kristen Stewart, frames it as a ‘child star’ issue

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 09:31 AM PDT

Kristen Stewart

First off, I want to mention that I didn’t choose to use this photo of Kristen Stewart in the Reem Acra boob dress as any sort of “scarlet lady” reference. It’s just that there aren’t exactly any new KStew photos floating around lately (since she’s still largely in hiding), and I still do think that she looked completely lovely in this dress. Also, I hope that the recent news of Kristen Stewart being reportedly dropped from the SWATH sequel has more to do with money (as in, Kristen’s huge salary requirements) than any sort of reputation damage because it would really be a d-ck move if the studio canned the scorned woman and let douchebag Rupert Sanders keep making money from the franchise. Now onto the actual story.

Jodie Foster has penned an essay for the Daily Beast in the wake of the groping scandal, but while she defends Kristen, Jodie keeps the essay very general in terms of child stars and the pressures they face from both the media and the public. She makes no mention of Kristen getting it on with a married director, and Jodie also doesn’t make it a point to call out Rupert Sanders either. Still, Jodie makes a few valid points. After all, she herself rose to child-star fame in Taxi Driver, and Jodie worked with a 12-year-old Kristen very closely while they filmed Panic Room together. Certainly, Jodie’s intentions are good here, but she seems to be arriving at an erroneous conclusion that former child stars should be given a free pass and, as such, should be forgiven for shady moves that they make well after they reach adulthood. At age 22, Kristen is no longer a child star, and she (just like Rupert) surely knew that what happened in the back of that Mini Cooper (and likely elsewhere) was wrong. Apparently, Jodie doesn’t see it that way:

Jodie Foster Kristen Stewart

On her own career: “I have been an actress since I was 3 years old, 46 years to date. I have no memories of a childhood outside the public eye. I am told people look to me as a success story. Often complete strangers approach me and ask, How have you stayed so normal, so well-adjusted, so private? I usually lie and say, ‘Just boring I guess.’ The truth is, like some curious radioactive mutant, I have invented my own gothic survival tools. I have fashioned rules to control the glaring eyes. Maybe I've organized my career choices to allow myself (and the ones I truly love) maximum personal dignity. In my era, through discipline and force of will, you could still manage to reach for a star-powered career and have the authenticity of a private life. Sure, you’d have to lose your spontaneity in the elaborate architecture. You’d have to learn to submerge beneath the foul air and breathe through a straw. But at least you could stand up and say, I will not willfully participate in my own exploitation. Not anymore. If I were a young actor or actress starting my career today in the new era of social media and its sanctioned hunting season, would I survive? Would I drown myself in drugs, sex, and parties? Would I be lost?”

She wouldn’t do it today: “I’ve said it before and I will say it again: if I were a young actor today I would quit before I started. If I had to grow up in this media culture, I don’t think I could survive it emotionally. I would only hope that someone who loved me, really loved me, would put their arm around me and lead me away to safety. Sarah Tobias would never have danced before her rapists in The Accused. Clarice would never have shared the awful screaming of the lambs to Dr. Lecter. Another actress might surely have taken my place, opened her soul to create those characters, surrendered her vulnerabilities. But would she have survived the paparazzi peering into her windows, the online harassment, the public humiliations, without overdosing in a hotel room or sticking her face with needles until she became unrecognizable even to herself?”

On working with Kristen: “In 2001 I spent 5 months with Kristen Stewart on the set of Panic Room mostly holed up in a space the size of a Manhattan closet. We talked and laughed for hours, sharing spontaneous mysteries and venting our boredom. I grew to love that kid. She turned 11 during our shoot and on her birthday I organized a mariachi band to serenade her at the taco bar while she blew out her candles. She begrudgingly danced around a sombero with me but soon rushed off to grip and electric department’s basketball game. Her mother and I watched her jump around after the ball, hooting with every team basket. ‘She doesn't want to be an actor when she grows up, does she?’ I asked. Her mom sighed. ‘Yes … unfortunately.’ We both smiled and shrugged with an ambivalence born from experience. ‘Can’t you talk her out of it?’ I offered. ‘Oh, I’ve tried. She loves it. She just loves it.’ More sighs. We watched her run around the court for a while, both of us silent, each thinking our own thoughts. I was pregnant at the time and found myself daydreaming of the child I might have soon. Would she be just like Kristen? All that beautiful talent and fearlessness … would she jump and dunk and make me so proud?”

On Kristen, post-scandal: “Cut to: Today … A beautiful young woman strides down the sidewalk alone, head down, hands drawn into fists. She’s walking fast, darting around huge men with black cameras thrusting at her mouth and chest. ‘Kristen, how do you feel?’ ‘Smile Kris!’ ‘Hey, hey, did you get her?’ ‘I got her. I got her!’ The young woman doesn’t cry. F–k no. She doesn’t look up. She’s learned. She keeps her head down, her shades on, fists in her pockets. Don’t speak. Don’t look. Don’t cry.”

[From Daily Beast]

Okay, I can see how this essay happened, for Jodie obviously adores Kristen and wants to add some kind words into the shuffle and hopefully mitigate some of the fallout that has been aimed at Kristen. However, she’s really framing the issue wrong. The venom aimed at Kristen has little to do with the fact that she is a very famous former child star at all. It’s got everything to do with the fact that she’s consistently coveted an attitude — and pretended to be above it all — while still boning her Hollywood director like a clichéd starlet. Also, Rupert is married with two kids, and yes, he is a total douche.

At the same time, it’s great that a prominent female is speaking up for Kristen. But I also find it problematic that she’s receiving support from Jodie, who isn’t exactly a great judge of character. Case in point: Jodie’s defense of KStew is unavoidably tainted by the fact that she’s also provided unwavering support for woman-beater Mel Gibson and child-rapist Roman Polanski. So yes … dilemma.

Elisabetta Canalis hits the red carpet with Steve O: they look like siblings, right?

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 09:14 AM PDT

I have to hand it to Elisabetta Canalis. She’s working a movie premiere (Hit & Run, more on that at this link) with a dude who got famous stapling his balls to his leg and setting himself on fire and she looks more happy, comfortable and dare I say – proud – than she ever did with George Clooney. Let’s revisit photos of Elisabetta with Clooney for sh*ts and giggles.

Here she is at the Oscars with Clooney in 2010:

And at the Golden Globes in 2010:

See what I mean? She just looks awkward and like she’s trying to play a role. To be fair, I guess everyone looks uptight at these events, but I have an agenda here so go with it. These photos also remind me of how short a shelf life Clooney’s women have. 2010 is not that long ago!

So here she is with her on-again lover, Steve-O, and they look super happy and like they’re practically related. Look at their faces in this photo, they really look alike. I guess what they say about people being attracted to their facemates or something is true. Also: do you guys do a double-take like I do when you see couples who are dressed alike and look alike? I love seeing couples who are wearing the same color and style clothing and I always wonder if they did it deliberately or if it was a mistake or not.

Steve-O and Elisabetta aren’t dressed alike here, but look at them they’re practically twins if you account for her nosejob. Oh, the last we heard about these two they had broken up in April, and Elisabetta may have hooked up with Lenny Kravitz last month, but of course now they’re together again. It’s like looking in a mirror.

You know what would be awesome? If Elisabetta Canalis was pregnant with Steve-O’s daredevil baby. But it’s probably just the weird waistline on that dress, which only poofs out at certain angles.

Thanks to Popoholic for the lead!

Lindsay Lohan looks less cracked-out at the wrap party for ‘The Canyons’

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 08:36 AM PDT

Here are some new photos of Lindsay Lohan looking somewhat presentable and less cracked-out last night in LA. LL was at the "wrap-party" for the micro-financed film, The Canyons. So, the film only had a budget of something like $200,000, but they managed to make it stretch for a month of filming, plus their coke budget, plus an after-party budget. Fine, I'll say it. This is going to be a really terrible film. Do you want further evidence? Lindsay's p0rn costar, James Deen, told TMZ that Lindsay totally "helped" him:

Lindsay Lohan personally helped p0rn star James Deen reach new levels of prowess — this according to the p0rn star himself, who says acting with Lindsay was one of the greatest learning experiences of his life.

James was leaving Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills Saturday when he was asked about working with Lindsay in their new film “The Canyons” — and he replied, “Working with her was awesome. She’s super professional. Super great. She’s a fantastic actress … I feel like I learned a lot from her.”

Deen said working with an actress like Lindsay “brings the best out of you. It was very helpful to me as an amateur.”

[From TMZ]

I just felt a twinge because I remembered all of the nice things Tina Fey used to say about working with Lindsay on Mean Girls. Poor Tina.

Meanwhile, remember how both LL and Charlie Sheen were planning to take roles in Scary Movie 5? Well, as it turns out, they really will have scenes together – death scenes. Is this even worthy of a spoiler? Fine. Spoiler: The studio says Charlie and LL will be "the world's hottest new couple" in the movie, and one or both will be killed in the movie’s opening sequence.

And here's another "WTF?" piece of Lohan news – remember how Lindsay was all up on James Franco last year? Yeah, I had forgotten about that too, but Franco hasn't forgotten. James Franco is going to make a movie about her. Sort of. Maybe. Franco has put a "casting notice" out that he's looking for “James Franco types” and “Lindsay Lohan types" for a new project he's directing.

I'm also including a photo of Lindsay at will.i.am's album release party a few nights ago – that's the photo where she's got a pissed-off expression and she's wearing the black sleeved thing. LL and Will were joking around about a possible collaboration (true story: I wrote that as "collabortion" at first). You can see more about that here.

Jennifer Aniston & Justin might elope, and “Jen loves babies” of course

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 07:39 AM PDT

As I said in today's earlier Jennifer Aniston-Justin Theroux post, prepare yourselves for the onslaught of elopement, wedding and baby stories from the tabloids about these two. But for this week, the magazines are just trying to figure out how the engagement went down, and when Justin gave Jen this huge, remarkable and alleged "emerald-cut diamond". People Mag predictably put Jennifer's engagement news on their cover, and here's part of the story:

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux hopped a private jet to New York City last weekend to celebrate Theroux’s 41st birthday – but he had a little something else up his sleeve: an engagement ring.

On Aug. 10, Theroux’s birthday, the pair of 15 months sat side by side at a corner table at Blue Hill restaurant in Manhattan, enjoying a quiet dinner and looking “like a long-term couple in love,” a source tells PEOPLE in its new issue.

But the celebration was just getting started. As his rep exclusively revealed to PEOPLE, Theroux proposed that day – and Aniston, 43, gave him “an extraordinary gift” by accepting. “He’s been dying to do it,” says a Theroux pal of his popping the question. “His friends knew it was coming.”

Immediately after Aniston’s heartfelt “yes!” the couple called their families – including her father, actor John Aniston – and close pals to share the good news.

“Everyone is really excited for them,” adds a source. “It’s amazing to see how happy Justin makes Jen, and everyone was always hoping that he would propose.”

Friends say that the couple got serious about each other fast, and that actor-screenwriter Theroux is a perfect match for the laid-back Aniston. “They have the same low-key attitude about life,” says a member of their inner circle. “They just click and complement each other.”

"I wouldn't be surprised if they eloped," the source goes on to say that they may start a family too.

"Jen loves babies. They would be great at raising a family together."

A friend goes on to say: "They're in it for the long run. Those two are madly in love."

[From People Mag & Hollywood Life]

Ah, yes. Elopement and babies. How predictable! Next week it will be that Jennifer is already pregnant and that's why Justin proposed, shotgun-style. As for the whole New York proposal thing… does anyone else find that odd? Jennifer was in North Carolina working on her film last week (and she's on the NC set this week too). Justin was photographed in North Carolina on Thursday of last week – he made a point of going down there after they had spent several weeks apart, and after Star Mag claimed that they had gone on a break. So, Justin flew down on Wednesday or Thursday of last week, then he and Jennifer boarded a private plane back to New York on Friday and the first thing they did was go out to dinner (for Justin's birthday) and he proposed to her? Of course, it's all completely possible, but is it reasonable that everything went down this way? Eh. Oh, and a rep for this restaurant, Blue Hill, told Page Six this morning, "We are thrilled about the news of their engagement, but we cannot comment on any guests." So maybe the restaurant people are like, "Seriously, Jennifer Aniston was in here on Friday? I don't remember that."

As for the sketchy, passive-aggressive timing of Jennifer and Justin's announcement and how it coincided with reports about a Brangelina wedding, a friend ("friend") of Jennifer's huffed to HuffPo: "That is absolutely not true. Jennifer doesn't follow gossip at all. She doesn't tweet or have any interest in social media, so she probably didn't even know about the wedding rumors. Plus, Justin proposed on his birthday, which is a date that has nothing to do with Brad or Angelina. She is happier than I have ever seen her and so is he. It's not easy dating one of the most famous people in the world." Cough.

Robert Pattinson: ‘I’ve never been interested in trying to sell my personal life’

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 06:33 AM PDT

Robert Pattinson appeared on Good Morning America live this morning. The interview was conducted by George Stephanopoulos, who… I mean, he thinks of himself as a serious journalist and newsman and that's fine. But can I just yell about something for a second? This is how George couched his "personal question" to Robert: "Everybody just wants to know: how are you doing? What do you want your fans to know about what’s going on in your personal life?” Either have the balls to ask – flat-out, straight-out – about an actor's personal life, or simply don't do it. Don't ask some variation of, "People are worried about you. What would you like your fans to know?" That's cloying, cheap and a journalistic cop-out. Have the nerve to ask, "So, did you break up with Kristen? How do you feel about everything right now?" Of course Rob could shut it down, and of course he could say the dreaded "no comment". But it's so much more honest than the other BS.

Anyway, this is Rob's first "real interview" because the Jon Stewart thing on Monday didn't really count. Jon Stewart didn't ask any penetrating questions about what Rob's fans should know about his personal life (UGH), so the task fell to George. George gave Rob a box of cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch, apparently his favorite), and when George asked the awful question, Rob's reply was to charmingly stammer, "They seem pretty excited about . . .kind of whatever. Um, I’d like my fans to know that Cinnamon Toast Crunch is just 130 calories [a serving!]. Pretty much everything that comes out of my mouth is irrelevant. You go into it to do movies. I’ve never been interested in trying to sell my personal life. The reason why you go onto TV is to promote movies.” Here's the video:

video platform video management video solutions video player

"I’ve never been interested in trying to sell my personal life"? Hm. Are we still playing that game? I guess so. Summit definitely tried (and succeeded) in selling Robert and Kristen's personal life together to sell the Twilight franchise, but for the rest of it… maybe we're dealing in technicalities and wordplay as to what constitutes "selling one's personal life." I'm not sure how I feel about the WAY Rob dodged the questions about his personal life, but I will say that at this point, he really doesn't owe "his fans" or the "journalists" anything. I don't take issue with the fact the dodged the questions, or that he doesn't think his fans "deserve" some cohesive statement on where things stand with Kristen. It's fine, y'all. But dear God, is the Breaking Dawn Part II publicity tour going to be awkward or what? That sh-t's going to be epic.

Kristen Stewart dropped from ‘SWATH’ sequel, now it’s just ‘The Huntsman’

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 05:20 AM PDT

Oh no! Bad news for Kristen Stewart. It looks like her career really IS going to take a hit after she Mini-Cooper'd her married director, Rupert Sanders. In the immediate wake of the Sanders-Stewart scandal, it was widely reported that Kristen was still attached to a sequel of Snow White and the Huntsman, and although Sanders wasn't contractually obligated to direct the sequel, he could and might do it. Well… not so much, for some of it. The Hollywood Reporter says that SWATH will be getting a sequel, and that Rupert Sanders might have something to do with it… but Kristen Stewart will not be returning. It's just going to be about "The Huntsman" now. Which means another vehicle for Chris Hemsworth:

Universal has decided to shelf its planned Snow White and the Huntsman sequel and is instead focusing on a solo Huntsman movie starring Chris Hemsworth. Kristen Stewart will not be invited to return if the follow-up goes forward.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel to June’s Snow White, which starred Stewart, Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, is being reconceived as a spinoff movie. It’s unclear whether director Rupert Sanders will return, though one source with ties to the production says he will.

However, screenwriter David Koepp, who had been hired to pen the continuation of the original film, is being settled out of his rich contract, according to sources, as the project is being transformed into something other than the movie that Koepp had been hired to write.

“The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise,” a Universal spokeswoman says.

The move comes in the wake of Stewart, 22, and the married Sanders, 41, apologizing publicly for a romantic affair after compromising photos of the duo were published in July. (Stewart was dating her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.) While it might have been awkward for Stewart and Sanders to reunite for a sequel, it is not clear why the decision to move forward without Stewart was made.
It is highly unusual for Hollywood studios to drop stars of franchises between the first and second installments. The original plan, according to sources, was to make two films featuring the Snow White character and a third film spinning off the Huntsman, similar to how Fox’s X-Men series has spun off Wolverine.

It’s far from clear whether a Snow White follow-up will ever get made. The movie was a modest hit for Universal, grossing $389.2 million worldwide on a budget of about $170 million. But Stewart, one of Hollywood’s top stars thanks to the Twilight franchise, commands a hefty salary. Declining to pick up her option would shave millions from the budget of a second movie.

Universal is looking for a new writer, and insiders hope to start filming in July when Hemsworth, who also stars in Marvel’s Thor series, becomes available.

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

The wording on this is very weird. At first, I really thought it was the studio completely behind this decision, but after re-reading the report… I'm not so sure. I think Kristen Stewart might have gone to the studio with some qualms about the sequel, and they were like, "Eh, maybe we just won't have you in the sequel anyway" and Kristen rolled her eyes and said "Whatever, dude." It just feels more like a mutual split rather than a studio bouncing Kristen from a sequel. It feels like Kristen is trying to pull back from roles that will "look bad" – like playing a trampy little thing in Cali, or working with Rupert Sanders again in a SWATH sequel.

Maybe she just needs or wants some time off. Which might not be the worst thing. Whenever a young actor gets in over their head, I always suggest it: take a year off, get out of LA, get out of your own headspace. Go travel the world, do some charity work and come back in a year, refreshed and ready to work. Kristen should do that.

Jennifer Aniston’s engagement ring is allegedly “a huge emerald-cut diamond”

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 05:15 AM PDT

On Monday, Jennifer Aniston was photographed on the set of We're the Millers, that film where she's playing a stripper or hooker masquerading as a wife and mom. We didn't have access to the photos, but you can see them here – she was photographed wearing a grey robe and flip-flops, in between costumes and such. What was notable was that the photographer didn't get a shot of Jennifer's new engagement ring. She managed all the right angles, positioned and draped fabric just the right way so that the photographer didn't get the shot. What does it mean? Does it mean that Justin hasn't picked out a ring yet? Does it mean that Jennifer didn't want her big ring debut to be while she was wearing a robe and slippies? I don't even know. Life & Style claims that THEY know, though. They claim that Justin gave Jennifer a giant emerald-cut diamond ring:

Justin Theroux certainly knows the way to his lady’s heart! Just four days after Justin proposed to his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, on his 41st birthday, Life & Style, on newsstands tomorrow, can reveal exclusive details about Jen’s much-talked-about ring!

“It’s a huge emerald-cut diamond,” a friend of Jen’s tells Life & Style. “It’s a rectangle with tapered diamond baguettes on the sides.”

The source estimates the ring to be 8 carats, adding, “It’s beautiful.”

And the 43-year-old actress is beaming with happiness.

“Just after Jen got engaged, she called all her friends and told them about it,” the friend reveals. “She was so happy and said she loves the ring. I think she was overwhelmed and overjoyed by the size and beauty of it!”

Though the duo are very protective of their personal lives, Jen has revealed just how great it is to be in the relationship.

“I’m very happy,” Jen has said about her personal life with Justin. “I’m extremely lucky, and I’m extremely happy.”

“Having experienced everything you don’t want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want,” she’s also said. “As I get older, I realize what qualities are important in love and what suits me — and what I won’t settle for.”

The couple have been dating for more than a year since meeting on the set of Wanderlust in May 2011. Before meeting Jen, Justin dated Heidi Bivens for 14 years. Jen was married to actor Brad Pitt in 2000 and finalized their divorce in October 2005.

[From Life & Style]

I love a good emerald cut. Emerald-cuts are maybe my second favorite after Asscher cuts, although in the past decade, Asscher cuts have grown in popularity to the point where they just don't seem as special anymore. Sigh… what were we talking about? Ah, yes. Jennifer and the ring. I hope she got a nice one. I hope Justin picked it out himself and that he has a good eye for jewelry. I'm not sure if I buy Life & Style's story, but I do think it's strange that no jeweler has come out, proclaiming that Justin Theroux bought from their boutique. Hm.

By the way, yesterday Jezebel ran a strange piece about Aniston and our (society's) continuing interest in the state of her womb, and how we should all just leave her alone, pity party, etc, and why oh why does this never happen to George Clooney? I'll say what I always say – Jennifer did this to herself, she brought all of the speculation on herself because she talked about having babies for years and years and even in that infamous Vanity Fair interview in 2005, she was still claiming that she wanted babies and of course Brad did not leave her because of the lack of babies, etc. I would be fine if Jennifer came out and said, "Yeah, I never really cared about having babies." You know, because that's what George Clooney always says or indicates – he's not interested in having a wife. He's not interested in babies. He's honest about it when asked, which is why his private life gets treated differently – because he sets up a different set of expectations. Just my opinion. This is just to prepare all of you for 20 million tabloid covers proclaiming “Jennifer Aniston: A wedding AND a baby!” and “JustJen’s Twins and a Greek Elopement” etc.

Anderson Cooper is on vacation w/ Andy Cohen, did his bf stage the makeout pics?

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 05:08 AM PDT

Anderson instagrammed the above pic with the caption “Look who just took the same Instagram pic as me.”

Yesterday we heard that Anderson Cooper was on vacation in Croatia with his boyfriend when he was confronted with those awful photos of his boyfriend making out with another guy in public. It would have made for an awkward vacation if that was the case – or was it? Cooper recently posted a photo on Instagram of Bravo VP and “Watch What Happens Live” host, Andy Cohen, along with the caption “Look who just took the same Instagram pic as me.” (That picture is above.) That same Instagram pic he’s referring to was a sunset in Croatia, judging by their recent Instagram photos, taken at the same time. (Note: I installed Instagram on my iPad for this story and am not a fan. Why do they limit you to an iPod/iPhone size app and why can’t you use it to see photos on a PC? Update: thanks to Mimi for pointing me to Webstagram. You still need to sign up for Instagram through the app though.)

So this means that Andy and Anderson are on vacation together, and that they might be a new couple! Granted some people are saying that they’ve been friends for years, and that they’re with a group of friends, but I want to believe they’re together. People have been rooting for them to hook up for some time. We’ve heard that Anderson and Andy are friends, and last year The Enquirer ran a story that Andy was hoping to date Anderson, even though Anderson was in a long term relationship.

Maybe those photos of Anderson’s (ex?) boyfriend, Ben Maisani, making out with another guy were staged to send a message that Ben wasn’t the one Anderson was referring to when he wrote that he was gay and that “I love, and I am loved.” Maybe Anderson was in a new relationship with someone who encouraged him to come out of the closet. Maybe Anderson dumped Ben for Andy, and Ben was pissed and wanted to get back at him, prompting Anderson to post that photo of Andy. Whatever went on, it doesn’t look like it’s as cut and dried as we thought.

I’m thinking that In Touch got it wrong and that Anderson wasn’t on vacation with Ben, he was on vacation with Andy. (Andy instagrammed a photo of himself on the water three days ago, so he’s probably been there the whole time.) Yay! I really hope they’re together. I don’t know much about this Ben guy, but he owns a gay bar. I can’t help but think he’s not worthy, you know?

Thanks to Gawker for the lead for this story!

I found these photos on one of those Instagram collection sites. I think they’re from last year, as the Enquirer ran one of them in their story around that time.

Update: Clearer version of Andy’s photo – so cute!

Robert Pattinson seems “happy, friendly, relaxed” during his promotional tour

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 04:33 AM PDT

If anyone is keeping score, it took less than 24 hours for me to go FULL TWIHARD on Robert Pattinson's publicity tour for Cosmopolis. In the past, I've had moments where I really enjoyed Rob. He's almost always a good interview, he's funny and he usually comes across as a sweet guy. But something about The New Rob… it's turning me into a squealing Twihard. I really did do a little "squee!" at these photos of Rob yesterday in NYC. He was just walking from his hotel to the car. He wore a simple white t-shirt, dark jeans, with a hint of boxer shorts sticking out from behind. And he's just perfect!!! OMG. Is that what Twihardom feels like?

Anyway, I'm sure this will be one of many Twihard-y posts about Rob today, so let's just get to some of the stories circulating about him. It seems that at the Cosmopolis afterparty on Monday night, Rob was in a halfway decent mood:

Robert Pattinson turned his frown upside down! After a charming appearance on The Daily Show and a red carpet walk at MOMA, the 26-year-old didn’t shrink into the corner for the Cosmopolis premiere afterparty at The Dream Downtown hotel in NYC’s Meatpacking district.

Following a private dinner at the hotel’s Library, the Gucci-clad actor — making his first public appearance since news of girlfriend Kristen Stewart’s affair broke — “looked happy,” one observer tells Us Weekly.

“He was friendly and spoke to everyone that said hello.” One topic that never came up? “There was no talk of Kristen,” the observer says. “He was smiling and laughing a lot.”

Arriving at PH-D (the penthouse at the Dream Downtown) around 10:30 p.m., the star and his pals (including Cosmopolis costars Stanley Tucci, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand and Sarah Gadon) parked themselves at a banquette near the DJ booth — surrounded by six bodyguards. Pattinson drank bottles of Budweiser as he chatted with other revelers — and, with the doors opened to the outside terraces, he puffed on an electronic cigarette.

Leaving PH-D past midnight, the star and his group just moved the party downstairs — to the Electric Room, a bar in Dream Downtown’s basement — for a few more drinks. The fun, chill evening was about “celebrating with his friends and costars,” a source explains to Us. Guests were treated to an open bar care of Ciroc vodka.

“It’s really too bad that there was a cloud over his big night. He knows that everyone wanted to ask and bring it up,” adds the source of Pattinson and Stewart’s troubled romance. “He’s ready for life after Twilight now — now more than ever.”

[From Us Weekly]

People Magazine had many of the same details, but People's unnamed source said, "He was very charismatic, all smiles, looking very relaxed and hugging all who stopped by to say . The general crowd gravitated towards his table, but he was shielded by security. He was surrounded by women and the movie’s cast. The whole room was watching him, and he looked genuinely at ease and comfortable the whole time.” Apparently, Paul Giamatti, was "looking over at Rob, and looked like he felt sorry for him." OMG. Paul Giamatti is all Twihardy and horny too. JUST LIKE ME.

Other stories… Variety reports that Rob is signing on to Werner Herzog's new film called Queen of the Desert. My gut reaction was "DRAG QUEENS!!" because I thought it was some kind of remake of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. But it's actually about the desert, and the relationship between Gertrude Bell and T.E. Lawrence. Bell would be played by Naomi Watts, and Pattinson has been cast as T.E. Lawrence, also known as "Lawrence of Arabia". I could actually see that. You know who would have made an outstanding T.E. Lawrence? Benedict Cumberbatch. I'm just sayin'. I'm not hatin'. Anyway, this new role is part of Rob's new strategy to get as far away from sparkly vampires as he can get. He's also doing a military role with Mission: Blacklist, and several mysteries/action/drama films.

Meanwhile, Radar claims that Kristen Stewart is relieved and "filled with regret" after watching Rob's interview with Jon Stewart. A source claims, "Just like his devout fans, Kristen tuned into Robert's interview with Jon Stewart with drawn breath. But after seeing him deflect the questions about her, Kristen's anxiety soon disappeared and instead she was filled with regret. While she was obviously relieved that Robert didn't trash her, the realization that their relationship was finally over hit her hard. Kristen was praying that after the dust settled she would get another chance and she was clinging on to that hope." Now she wants to see Rob in person and work on having a friendship with him. A friendship that would involve him publicly forgiving her, I'm assuming.

Jessica Biel in Zac Posen for Dublin premiere: the worst hairstyle ever?

Posted: 15 Aug 2012 04:29 AM PDT

CB and I were just debating Jessica Biel's hair, and why Biel seems incapable of finding a decent hairstyle. These new photos – from yesterday's Dublin premiere of Total Recall – are a great example of Jessica's lack of self-awareness about her styling. CB thinks the problem could be that Jessica simply has an awful hair stylist whom Biel trusts completely for whatever reason, thus bangs trauma and this raggedy mess. My take: Jessica is so convinced of her own beauty, so overconfident in her ability to pull off extremely versatile looks, that it simply doesn't occur to her that she should just stick with a simple chignon.

Anyway… obviously, I think Biel looks pretty rough here. I even dislike her Zac Posen dress on the red carpet, although Biel did change for the afterparty (into the lacy Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress in rose-beige). The Posen dress just doesn't suit her – maybe I would like it more on someone else, I guess. As for Biel's costars… Kate Beckinsale wore a Donna Karan gown in hot pink. It's a pretty gown. I'm not sure it's right for a Dublin premiere, but whatever. And Colin wore a D&G suit. He looks meh to me these days.

Ugh. I still cannot even fathom why an attractive girl would consistently allow herself to be styled so poorly. What is Jessica thinking? Is she getting bad advice? Or is it a matter of insane overconfidence?
