Katie Holmes reportedly enrolled Suri into a prestigious Catholic school

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 07:03 AM PDT

We have 20 million more photos of Katie Holmes and Suri from the past few days. Some of the places they're been: The Children's Museum, Via Qadronno (for ice cream and face painting), FAO Schwarz (Suri got a new stuffed animal), and gymnastics class. Oh, and Suri also went with some friends (!!) to a pet store to look at puppies. Because that's what's next, I bet. Katie and Suri are going to get a pet. Perhaps a puppy, although I would suggest a kitten, if they're listening. Two girls in the city, restarting their lives… I just see Katie and Suri with a kitten.

Anyway, as you can see, Katie and Suri are moving on and right now their movements are being documented extensively, on a daily basis. But when the heat dies down and it's time to settle into NYC for the long haul? Well, Katie is preparing to lay down some serious roots. According to reports, Katie has enrolled Suri into a prestigious Catholic school in Manhattan –the same Catholic school that educated Lady Gaga.

Come September, Suri Cruise will attend an all-girls school in New York City, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Katie Holmes, 33, has reportedly enrolled her daughter, 6, in Manhattan’s prestigious Convent of the Sacred Heart. The school’s notable alumnae list includes Lady Gaga, 26, Jordana Brewster, 32, Nicky Hilton, 28, Caroline Kennedy, 54, and the late Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt.

When classes begin, the previously homeschooled Suri will be required to attend Catholic mass every Thursday. Tuition at Convent of the Sacred Heart costs $38,000 a year.

Holmes and her daughter are currently living in a $12,500-a-month apartment in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. In a previously released statement, Holmes and Tom Cruise, 50, vowed that they “are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests.” The Romantics actress received primary custody of Suri, though Cruise has been granted visitation rights.

[From Us Weekly]

I believe that Katie and Tom worked out a child-support agreement in which Tom will be paying for everything involving Suri… which means Tom is probably going to have to foot the bill for Suri's Catholic-school education. Xenu will not be pleased. Incidentally, I think Tom's film – Oblivion – just wrapped or is about to wrap, which means Tom has a window of free time coming up. Which means he'll probably be headed to NYC to spend some time with Suri, per their "generous" visitation agreement. Tom's lawyer Bert Fields is still trying to make Tom sound like father of the year for giving Katie primary custody – Fields told People Magazine, "Tom was always most interested in his child. His concern was for Suri. He will have a meaningful relationship with Suri. I don’t know the details of his schedule, so I can’t comment [on when Tom will see Suri]. My guess is he’ll be seeing Suri very soon.”

Of course, Fields also told People Magazine, "Somebody said the Scientologists were directing the negotiations, and that is absolute hogwash. There was no Scientologist present, I wasn’t on the phone with Scientologists. Scientologists played no part of role in the negotiations between the lawyers. [We] dealt rationally with the issues, hashed them all out and over a few days worked something out that was to the satisfaction of both sides." Er… Bert Fields knows that at least one Scientologist was on the line, right?

Comic-Con photos: Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, ‘Django Unchained’ and more

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 06:30 AM PDT

If you couldn't tell from the Twilight photos last week, Comic-Con is happening. You can smell the geeks and nerds from here, can't you? Well, I have to say… this year's Comic-Con seems kind of uneventful. People are showing up to support their shows and movies, of course, but there's not a lot of news or excitement about any particular project or any particular trailer or anything. Maybe I'm wrong, but everything just seems kind of meh. So here are about a dozen "highlight" photos from Comic-Con over the past three days. I'm starting with Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale promoting Total Recall – why isn't Colin Farrell there? Because he's already making appearances to promote the film overseas? Is it just me, or is the publicity for Total Recall really weird and low-key? It's like the studio barely wants anyone to know the film is coming out. Anyway, Kate looks really skinny and Jessica looks like she's trying too hard to become nerd-bait.

Joseph Gordon Levitt and Emily Blunt promoting Looper. I swear, Emily has been tweaked.

Lea Michele promoting Glee. Why is Glee at Comic-Con?!

Mark Hamill has gained some weight. It happens.

Christoph Waltz was there to promote Django Unchained, which was probably the biggest highlight of Comic-Con thus far. Jamie Foxx was there too. Both men have questionable facial hair, although I kind of dig Jamie's.

Kerry Washington, also for Django Unchained. I don't like her outfit.

I'm sorry, Ian Somerhalder fans, but I don't "get" why this guy is sexy. As best, he looks like a cheeseball. At worst, he looks predatory and gross.

I cannot even describe how much I loathe Ginnifer Goodwin's hair. Jennifer Morrison looks okay here, but meh overall.

Robert Downey Jr.!!!! So hot.

Jonny Lee Miller promoting CBS's Elementary, which is the American version of the BBC's Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Elementary will feature Sherlock being a crime-solver in NYC with Lucy Liu as "Watson". You know I love JLM, but I hope this sh-t bombs.

Is Brad Pitt is acting like a tantrumy baby during the ‘World War Z’ reshoots?

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 05:51 AM PDT

At some point last year, I started calling the film shoot of World War Z "the never-ending production." Because it was. Brad Pitt was filming WWZ for most of last year, all over Europe. There was a Croatia shoot. There was a Budapest shoot. There was a London shoot. There was Scotland shoot. There was a studio shoot. It went on and on and on, and then they announced this year that Brad was going to have to come back and do extensive reshoots. Brad is not just the lead actor on the project – he's also producing it. He actually nurtured this project from its infancy, buying the rights to the book and hand-picking Marc Forster as director. So what's gone wrong? Well, the budget has bloated up to more than $170 million. Many sources say Forster got in over his head, and that Forster is the problem, fighting with Brad and his cinematographer and producers over every little thing. Some say Brad simply doesn't care enough of the project, choosing to focus his attention on his various other film commitments and side-projects. Some say WWZ was always going to be a difficult film to adapt for the screen. Whatever is going on, the reshoots – which are happening right now – are going very badly. Vulture reported that Brad and Marc Forster aren't even speaking to each other!

The horde of zombies in Paramount Pictures' World War Z aren't the only ones ravenous for brains: So is the troubled blockbuster's star and producer, Brad Pitt, who Vulture hears exclusively from multiple production sources has become so frustrated with the film's director, Marc Forster, that he stopped speaking to him altogether as the production heads into at least three weeks of reshoots.

Things got so bad that when Forster had notes on a scene for Pitt, they had to be relayed through an intermediary — and vice versa. We're told that this awkward function was and is being largely fulfilled by a rotating trio of studio production president Marc Evans, Paramount film group head Adam Goodman, and Dede Gardner, a former executive at the studio who now runs Pitt's company. And all this as the production crests $170 million as it heads into its costly reshoots, with an ending that is still in flux. (A representative for Creative Artists Agency, which represents both Pitt and Forster, declined to comment. Calls to Paramount were not returned by deadline.)

Ironically, Pitt, whose company, Plan B, is producing World War Z, originally fought for Forster to be given the director's chair on World War Z. The studio was wary, because his only other big-budget action film was Quantum of Solace, the 2008 James Bond film that proved a notoriously difficult shoot; this was due to the rush to beat the clock on a looming 2007 Writers Guild of America strike, but sources say that problems were also partly a result of Forster having never shot a big-budget action movie before. Pitt was able to get Forster on the project, no doubt because of his history with Paramount chairman Brad Grey, who not only used to be his manager, but also was a partner in Plan B.

And now the zombie-apocalypse film seems to be plagued by a similar combination of scheduling, script, and directorial problems. The film was rushed into production in July 2011 in order to make a Christmas 2012 release date, even though the script wasn't entirely ready. This speed proved for naught, as when both Paramount execs and Pitt became unhappy with how some of the big action set pieces were turning out, especially one at the end of the film that wasn't cutting together properly, the studio decided to bump the film's release until June of 2013. And in May, it was announced that Z would be returning to Budapest to shoot several weeks of additional material as well as reshoot some original scenes.

Now Paramount is trying to decide whether to just try to fix what they have or get writers to completely re-envision the film's finale. "The studio is cultivating multiple options," explains one of our production spies. "One is to try scrapping [the ending] and trying something different: They want to construct an entirely new ending to the movie. The other is to try salvaging it, because decent action can be elevated, and even shitty action can be saved. This is not an unmitigated disaster; it is salvageable."

Last month, Lost exec producer and Prometheus scriptwriter Damon Lindelof was brought in to watch the movie and make suggestions to Paramount on what fixes were needed. "Body and fender work," as it's known in the talent agency business, is a common enough practice: A boldface-name screenwriter is brought in, makes notes, and suggests changes that are usually fixed with a few days of reshoots or additional production.

Problem is, sources tell us that Lindelof said the script needed months of work, not days — something he didn’t have time for — and changes were needed throughout the film, not just at the end. He did agree to work with his former Lost colleague Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Cabin in the Woods) for the better part of a month to come up with framework script solutions. The studio is also reaching out to other writers, including Christopher McQuarrie, who did on-set rewrites for Paramount's Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. (Though he may be too busy: He's directing Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher for the studio, which bumped that movie up to take Z's old Christmas slot.)

Production sources tell Vulture that it is Pitt, not Forster, who has final approval over all the new pages generated by whatever writers work on the project over the next three weeks. And the communication breakdown between actor and director over how to reshoot it severely limits Paramount's ability to foresee an end to production. Until the pages are approved, a budget cannot be calculated. And until a budget is tallied, the amount of time that will be spent to make the changes can't be determined, either.

Meanwhile, another source inside World War Z adds that whatever happens with the script, additional — and possibly outside — directing help is likely to be sought for the action sequences that will need to be reshot. "They have to be careful, because the DGA has strict rules that say Forster has to be there on the set," says this source, "But someone is likely to be brought in to help direct the new action scenes."

All of this suggests some eventful weeks to come, but for now, the studio is, uh, dead quiet about what to do about the eerily “silent” partnership between Pitt and Forster.

[From Vulture]

Ugh, Damon Lindelof. I can't even tell you how disappointed I am that Lindelof has anything to do with the script "fixes" ("Throw in a Space Jesus!"). But if Christopher McQuarrie gets his hands on it, maybe something will be worked out. It does sound like the problems go beyond "rewriting the ending" and "a few scenes could be cut." This sounds like a complete disaster, with enough blame to go around for anyone. I would like to believe that Brad – who, by most accounts, is a consummate professional – wouldn't be giving the silent treatment to his director. But maybe he's just SO "over it" at this point, he can't even pretend to be working sh-t out. Or maybe he re-hired that cute brunette assistant and he's not paying attention to anything else.

Jason Segel spends quality time with Matilda Ledger in NYC: adorable?

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 05:40 AM PDT

When even an ice-cold bitch like me goes "Awww…" upon seeing these photos, you know an actor's transformation from "Former Cracken Sexual Partner" to "Solid Husband and Father Material" is complete. These are photos of Jason Segel and Matilda Ledger out for breakfast in NYC yesterday morning. There were photos of Jason and Matilda out together last week too – some say Michelle was traveling and Jason was looking after Matilda solo? I know Michelle made an appearance at Comic-Con last week, on behalf of Oz: The Great and Powerful (Michelle plays Glinda the Good Witch). It's possible that Michelle decided to jet off for a few days solo and Jason volunteered to spend time with her daughter. Radar says that Michelle was actually back in New York on Friday, but Jason took Matilda out early Saturday morning to let mom sleep. Which is kind of awesome. And I have to say… these photos are heartbreakingly adorable.

Jason and Matilda look very engaged with each other, and Matilda looks like a happy kid in general. Jason has only been dating Michelle since the end of February… and by all accounts, it got super-serious really, really fast. By April, Michelle landed a cover of Us Weekly that made it sound like Hollywood's Perpetual Fragile Victim had finally found one decent man. That tabloid cover would have been enough to scare off most men – so I was pleasantly surprised when it seemed like Jason was sticking around. He does seem to be in this for the long haul. Will they end up getting married? My guess is… probably.

Have you watched the trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful? It's okay. I'm not in love with it. But then again, I was never a Wizard of Oz person. My favorite part? Michelle's wig. I've always thought she looked prettier with long hair.

Kelsey & Kayte Grammer welcome baby girl Faith Evangeline Elisa

Posted: 15 Jul 2012 05:30 AM PDT

I keep getting mixed up about Kelsey Grammer and his wife Kayte. They got married last year, correct? And then renewed their vows this year. And then there was the pregnancy – their first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage but then Kayte got knocked up again… which I kept forgetting. I'm sorry for letting you down, gossip-wise. I do try to pay attention, Kelsey Grammer is just some kind of gossip black-hole for me. Anyway, Kayte gave birth on Friday. They had announced months ago that they were expecting twins but it seems like one of the babies died in utero, which is just sad.

Even as they celebrate the newest addition to their family, Kelsey and Kayte Grammer are mourning the loss of her twin.

The couple of two years reveals that the Friday morning arrival of Kelsey and Kayte’s new daughter, Faith Evangeline Elisa, was bittersweet.

“We are thrilled,” the couple tells Us Weekly in a statement about their baby girl, who weighed in at 6lbs, 2 oz. at birth. “Mother and child are in excellent health. We were ecstatic earlier this year, when we announced that Kayte was carrying twins. Tragically, we lost the little boy shortly thereafter,” the couple says. “This was not something we cared to make known publicly at the time. It was unspeakably painful and we know that people will understand our desire to keep the news private then, as we know they will respect our privacy in this matter now.”

Still, the Grammers — who married in February 2011 — say they’re focused on moving forward from their tragic loss.

“A glorious birth with a lingering sadness is ours today. We choose to celebrate the life that has been given us,” they share. “We proudly announce Faith to the world today looking forward to the days ahead and the children yet to come.”

[From Us Weekly]

The children yet to come…? Kayte is going to keep on having babies, apparently. He already has an adult daughter and two children with Camille. Eh, whatever, I'm not going to harp on about it. As for the little girl's name… it sounds very Southern to me, probably because "Faith" is my mom's name and she's super-Southern. I think Evangeline is pretty, as is Elisa. But my first thought was "This little girl's initials are F.E.E.G." "Feeg" is just a cool word to sound out… "Feeeee-eeeg." Anyway, congrats to the happy family!

PS… I like the fact that Kayte wore flip-flops throughout her pregnancy. But this busted red shade of hair color needs to go!
