Cate Blanchett versus Nicole Kidman: who looked better in Sydney? Posted: 21 Feb 2012 08:44 AM PST These are some photos from the weekend that I've only just seen – I'm sorry about that! Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett were two of several judges at the TropFest short film festival in Sydney, Australia. Quick, without looking it up – which one is older, La Blanchett or La Kidman? I had to look it up too – Cate is 42 years old, and she'll be 43 in May. Nicole is 44, and she'll be 45 in June. So Cate is younger by two years. Does Cate look it? To me, Cate's face is timeless. She's looked pretty much like this since her 20s. She'll still look like this a decade from now. As for Nicole… she's fighting and she's Botoxing and she's injecting… still? Or has she eased up? I don't even know. But I like what the Australian humidity (I'm assuming) has done to Nicole's hair – I get tired of her straight-ironed locks. Anyway, the event was easy enough – Nicole and Cate and the other judges had to watch a lot of short films and announce the winners. Cate and Nicole sat with each other – I wonder if they get along? I think Cate gets along with everyone. So they probably had a nice time. Nicole's dress is Gucci, by the way, and Cate is wearing Hussein Chalayan. Gwyneth Paltrow shills frozen, processed food when she thinks we’re not looking Posted: 21 Feb 2012 08:21 AM PST (Note on German Poster Translation: “I’m not a vegetarian, but I love Veggie” and “The vegetarian brand of Spar.“) I’ve been remiss in the past few weeks by failing extol the virtues of Gwyneth Paltrow and her Goop. She too, has been quite busy with her usual New Year’s colon cleanse (you can still buy the $425 Goop-branded version) and has only surfaced to ship out a $880 stroller to her BFF, Beyonce. Isn’t it odd how Goop values Blue Ivy at a value worth approximately two pristine colons? Anyway, we’re all quite familiar with Gwyneth’s disdain of processed, pedestrian food. She is, after all, a traditional 1950s housewife who cooks nearly every meal from scratch because she’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can and would rather die than feed her kids “Cup-A-Soup.” So it comes as quite a shock to see that Gwyneth is now shilling frozen food to the peasants in Austria when she thinks no one will notice: Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow will soon appear as the face of Austrian Spar Supermarket’s new range of food following in the footsteps of the likes of Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum and Pierce Brosnan. The self proclaimed “Part time vegetarian” Paltrow is heading the new vegetarian brand ‘Spar Veggie.’ For two days Paltrow was filmed making the advertisements in Paris which are due to be launched on Austrian TV and billboards tomorrow (Weds). Paltrow, a passionate cook herself, has recently published her own cook book and said: “I love cooking for my family, it is my favourite hobby!” Spar’s new range offers 43 vegetarian and vegan products from the fresh and frozen counters. Paltrow added: “They are a really healthy alternative to grab and go!” Dr. Gerhard Drexel, a director of Austrian SPAR said: “Gwyneth Paltrow is the ideal of the modern day, food-aware young woman, who knows having meatless meals is a good idea now and again.” “She loves the idea behind our new product line. We are overjoyed to have Gwyneth on board.” [From Austrian Times] Basically, SPAR food is a slightly fancier version of “Cup-A-Soup,” but in all fairness, Gwyneth might think this brand is slightly more exotic simply because it’s not an American product. Because that would be too gauche. Lest you think that I’m being too tough on Gwyneth (who cleary needs to make a buck to finance the Goop lifestyle), here’s an account from Videogum by the fellow who snapped the billboard advert at the top of this post: My brother took the attached photo in Vienna. It’s important to note that this appears to be an ad for a store-brand vegetarian product for the European supermarket chain Spar. It's also worth mentioning that in terms of quality, Spar is the equivalent of a convenience store attached to a gas station. You might buy gum there, but you wouldn't buy Spar-brand gum, or Spar-brand anything for that matter. [From Videogum] Of course, Gwyneth is perfectly happy to pocket the money flowing from her newfound SPAR endorsement while she’d never actually purchase this food in real life. Naturally, I don’t have a problem with any of Goop’s cosmetic or clothing endorsements, but she professes to be a beacon of healthy cooking and even sells her own overrated cookbook in that regard. She also thought that none of the American peasants would ever be clever enough to find out that she’s shilling packets of frozen rice and peas. So yeah, this is a major Goop fail. Posted: 21 Feb 2012 08:13 AM PST Another day, another story about Chris Brown doing his best to piss all over the inexplicable second, maybe third chance his industry is giving him to make millions of dollars singing and dancing despite the fact that he’s a well-documented abusive douche. Only now Rihanna may be willingly going down with him, perhaps literally if we read too much into the lyrics of this new song they jointly released. For several days I’ve been hearing rumors that Rihanna and Chris brown were doing a song together called “Birthday Cake,” to coincide with Rihanna’s birthday. I thought that they might be working on something in the studio, but that there was no chance in hell that industry execs would taint Rihanna by letting any of their work together get out. Sadly I was wrong. They put out “Birthday Cake” together in which they sing about eating cake as a stupid sex metaphor, and Rihanna also sang vocals for a remix of Chris’ “Turn Up The Music.” Here’s more on that “Birthday Cake” song. For the past few weeks the world has been at a stand still with rumors swirling of one time lovebirds Rihanna and Chris Brown working with each other again. On the Internz/The-Dream produced record, Breezy adds his melodies to the song crooning about his fantasies to blow the candles out on Rihannas cake. “Girl I wanna f–k you right now. Been a long time I been missing your body” Brown sings on the remix. “Lemme, lemme turn the lights down. When I, when I go down it’s a private party.” During the 2012 Grammy Awards weekend word began to spread that Rihanna and Brown were spotted at the same event with some reports suggesting the two were seen holding hands. These two are “professionally” collaborating and they’re also tweeting to each other. Chris sent Rihanna a happy birthday message yesterday and she tweeted back “thanks.” Meanwhile Chris is still writing asinine sh*t on Twitter and then deleting it. WWE wrestler CMPunk Tweeted that he wanted to “curb stomp” Brown, and then Brown tweeted back that the guy must be impotent. “@CMpunk needs more followers. He’s such a leader! Not to mention the roids hes on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure a women.” Chris later deleted that and just replaced it with a snotty message about how he would have his assistant send the guy an autographed photo. Is Rihanna going to see fallout from this? People are saying that she looks like she’s having issues, and she does look burnt out lately. I hope she’s ok and that she can walk away from this. It looks like she’s getting played by her abuser again, and it’s sad. Rihanna is shown out in London yesterday for her birthday on 2-21-12. She’s also shown out the day before. Two more videos with more background on this story are below. I’m a mom, and whenever I hear a story about a mom losing access to her kid my heart kind of sinks and I immediately feel for the other mother. Then I force myself to let logic kick in and I wonder how it got to that point. Like there must have been so many warning signs that this woman ignored and this story is not adding up for me. I do feel incredibly sorry for her, and I hope she gets both attention to her cause (which she is getting) and permanent primary custody of her daughter. The couple that scammed her into giving up her baby should be criminally charged. In the mean time I hope that baby is cherished and loved. Ok so if you haven’t heard this story yet it’s a doozy. The gist is that a naive 29 year-old single mom met a guy online who promised her the world and then some. He claimed to have an important job with the CIA, he claimed to be from a wealthy and prominent family, and she bought it all and had a baby with him without every checking him out at all. She apparently didn’t even look in his wallet or glance at his credit cards since he lied to her about his name too. Then after she had his baby, he asked her to sign papers giving him rights as the father. She didn’t bother to read them at all and actually signed papers in which she relinquished all parental rights to the guy. Some time later, he took the baby for a visit, didn’t bring her back the next day, and dropped the news that he was married and that she’d granted him full rights to their daughter. Here’s more: Kristy Gaffney says she thought she'd found love when she met a man online. Now the Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania woman claims she's in the battle of her life — fighting for the child they had. "I thought like he was Mr. Perfect, ha, ha," Gaffney told NBC10 Philadelphia investigator Harry Hairston. "There's no words for it. I'm just so angry at him." Gaffney said she met a man who told her he was Ed while surfing a popular dating website. The single mother, who is 29, said at first she was standoffish, but eventually warmed up to meeting him at a public place. Gaffney says that first date was at a restaurant just outside of Philadelphia and it led to many more dates and an intimate relationship. Gaffney said her new love interest told her he was a businessman, divorced, worked for the C.I.A. and was related to one of the most well-known, wealthiest families in the country. "He said, 'My last name is Dupont,' and I'm like, okay. And I said, 'related to the Duponts?' And he said, 'Yes.'" Gaffney says eventually Ed started talking about wedding bells. "He also was talking about having kids. He said he never could have kids because him and his wife, she couldn't get pregnant," Gaffney said. As their relationship continued, Gaffney got pregnant. She said at first Ed demanded she get an abortion and then changed his mind. After the baby was born, Gaffney said Ed asked her to sign some papers that would ensure he could claim his rights as the baby's father. Gaffney said although she didn't understand the paperwork, she signed it anyway and the two shared caring for the baby while Ed rehabbed his home so they could all live together as a family. One day, Ed didn't return their child as planned. Instead, Gaffney said he dropped this bombshell: "That's when he told me that the paperwork I actually signed was me giving up the rights, not to him to have his rights. It was me giving up my rights so his wife could adopt my baby, and I said, 'Are you kidding me?'" As it turned out, Ed wasn't Ed Dupont. He was Emmitt Dippold, who was still married and he and his wife were in the final stages of adopting the baby. "I couldn't even believe that someone was capable of something like that," Gaffney said. She took Dippold and his wife to court to get the adoption overturned. We reached out to Dippold at his office and his home for his side of the story, but were not able to speak with him. In court documents, Dippold denied that he ever claimed to be a Dupont and says Gaffney may have assumed that because his email reads 'ew-dupont.' Dippold denied that he ever wanted Gaffney to have an abortion and denied that he ever talk about marriage. He said Gaffney should have known all along that he was married because pictures of he and his wife were in plain view the times he and Gaffney were in his home together. In the end, the Judge believed Gaffney and overturned the adoption based on fraud. But the fight isn't over because the Dippolds filed an appeal. Dippold's attorney declined comment for our story, saying it's inappropriate to talk about pending custody and adoption matters. [From Today.MSNBC.com] In her appearance on the Today Show, (video above) Gaffney revealed that despite the fact that the judge sided with her, the appeal (even though the judge says it’s totally frivolous) means that the baby will stay with the Dippolds for up to several more months. She still only gets to see her daughter every other weekend. This whole thing sounds outrageous and I don’t blame her for going public. Even if she must have made a mountainload of mistakes to get to this point, she doesn’t deserve to lose custody of her baby. It takes some terrible people to plot to steal a mother’s baby like that. Duggars endorse Rick Santorum: ‘We want a man that honors God to lead our nation’ Posted: 21 Feb 2012 07:53 AM PST Yesterday we heard that Michelle Duggar was advising women to let their husbands tell them what to do in all matters and to never talk back to them or question their authori-tay. Here’s a small sample of what she said, and you can re-read our previous story if you missed it. “Husbands are commanded to govern their wives; God works through a man's decisions… Ask your husband to define your responsibilities; Ask your husband to tell you when you have a resistant spirit; dispel a backbiting tongue by silence.” Michelle wants a man to tell her what to do in all matters, so it’s not surprising that she and her husband are publicly endorsing a Presidential candidate who feels like he can do the same for the women of America. We’ve seen Michelle and Jim-Bob at events supporting Rick Santorum for President, and she told Radar Online why: "We want a man that honors God to lead our nation," Michelle Duggar said about the man she is supporting for the Republican party nomination. "We have been praying to the Lord that if you want the heart of the voters to turn to Rick Santorum then please do so," she said. "We prayed that more people would take a look at him, and more people are getting behind him." "He's a family values candidate with a proven track record. He honors life and stands up for what is right." [From Radar Online] It’s easy to see why Santorum is the Duggars’ choice, since he shares so many of the Duggars’ values on important issues. Although Santorum has supported funding for contraception, he has spoken out against contraception among married couples. He’s also against women working outside the home and is of course anti-abortion. Here are some quotes from Santorum on these three issues On contraception: it’s ‘dangerous’ even among married couples Last year Santorum told the Christian blog Caffeinated Thoughts that as president he would warn the nation about “the dangers of contraception” and the permissive culture it encourages. “Many of Christian faith have said, `Well, that’s OK. Contraception is OK,’” he said. “It’s not OK. It’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. … If it’s not for purposes of procreation, then you diminish this very special bond between men and women.” – Huffington Post and Time.com On women working outside the home “Many women have told me, and surveys have shown, that they find it easier, more 'professionally' gratifying, and certainly more socially affirming, to work outside the home than to give up their careers to take care of their children." See, he sounds just like the Duggars! No wonder they think he’s the best person to be our next President. I’ll pose a rhetorical question that comes to mind when I hear about the Duggars: what century are we living in?

LeAnn Rimes wears “LovE” necklace, tweets about “playing with the babies” Posted: 21 Feb 2012 07:48 AM PST Just take this as evidence that it's a slow gossip morning. These are photos of LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian last week, going somewhere, doing something. They were in Tucson, Arizona for several days on yet another vacation, because… neither of them has much of a career, but LeAnn has lots of money, so they go on vacation a lot. The Mail has some new photos of LeAnn and Eddie, and LeAnn seems to be wearing a necklace that says "LovE" – you can see the photos here. Sidenote: I just noticed that LeAnn is also wearing the necklace in these photos too. Joy. Anyway, the pics at the Mail are kind of gross, not because of the LovE, but because of LeAnn's bony chest plate, which is displayed in a too-revealing blouse. Regarding the necklace – when LeAnn's fansite tweeted her about it and the significance of the capitalized "E" (for Eddie, many presume), LeAnn tweeted back, "LOL, I’ve had that “new necklace” for 3 years. It was a gift form Eddie from our first Christmas together." And there's LeAnn, tireless image-controller about crap that really doesn't matter. LeAnn has also been tweeting about her bonus boys, of course. She tweeted, "Happy President’s Day! Happy Monday! Headed home from Tucson and to play w/ the babies on their day off from school." Dude, they're not babies! And they're not YOUR babies. Then she was asked what it was like becoming an "instant mom" and whether Eddie's sons live with them all the time – LeAnn tweeted back, "50% of the time. I love being a bonus mom. It comes w/ it’s challenges like all parenting, but they are sweet boys." God, I always walk away with such a headache after reading LeAnn's Twitter feed. She tweets so, so, SO much. Russian billionaire buys 22 year-old daughter $88 million NYC apartment Posted: 21 Feb 2012 06:37 AM PST Formula One heiress Petra Ecclestone made headlines last year when her daddy bought her Candy Spelling’s insane estate, the most expensive home in LA County, for $85 million. Well now a Russian heiress can lay claim to the most expensive apartment in the most expensive city in the US, an $88 million dollar penthouse on Central Park West. Note that there’s a photo of an indoor pool on this story on AOL real estate, which makes you assume that this outrageously expensive apartment must come with its own indoor pool. The article state that it’s a photo of the “common areas” in the complex, which includes a pool and a fitness center which must be shared with other, more peasant residents. This location has its own Wikipedia page which reveals that celebrities such as Sting and Denzel Washington have owned condos there. Ekaterina's father made his mega billions during the post-Soviet privatization of the economy, he is the former owner of fertilizer business Uralkali. And, aside from providing a nice study crash pad for his daughter, there could be an ulterior motive for the costly purchase. The billionaire businessman is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with his wife of 23 years, Elana, mother to Ekaterina and another daughter. Elana has accused her soon-to-be-ex-husband of serial infidelity and could be in line for a whopping $3.5 billion divorce settlement. However, the new apartment will be out of her grasp as it is in her lucky daughter's name only. [From Radar] It sounds like this purchase is for tax reasons and that it’s not necessarily just for a college student to live in. At least this girl is in college, and at least she has hobbies, as evidenced by the only photo I could find of her, riding a horse in a competition in 2010. The Daily Mail has a sort-of profile of Ekaterina as compared to Petra Ecclestone, and they say that Ekaterina is pretty low-key and remains relatively unknown, focusing on equestrian activities and not ostentatiously flashing her wealth. I found some photos of the apartment from Architectural Digest in 2010. They’ve made some changes prior to staging it for sale, as you can see in the comparison photos of the living room. (Or maybe those are two different rooms.) With that kind of money you can bet they’ll renovate too. Update: Radar is reporting that Ekaterina is studying at Harvard. Beyonce & Jay-Z had a date night at last night’s NJ Nets- NY Knicks game Posted: 21 Feb 2012 06:21 AM PST Beyonce and Jay-Z went to the Knicks game last night, because the only thing more powerful than the pull of parenthood is the chance to see Linsanity first-hand. That's a real thing, right? Jeremy Lin, the star New York Knick, who is getting better press than any other celebrity – Beyonce and Jay-Z graced Lin with their appearance last night, court-side. You can see some of the courtside photos here – including Beyonce not looking very impressed with the cheerleaders. I guess Jay and Bey don't support the Knicks, though? Because Jay is part-owner of the New Jersey Nets? Don't ask me to discuss sports. Please. I'm sure I got about a dozen things wrong in this paragraph. As for these photos, I guess Bey and Jay were spotted leaving the Nets-Knicks game after the Nets were victorious. After the game, it seems like they went out for Chinese food in the Village. All in all, a nice date night. I kind of don't want to talk about how Beyonce looks. Opinions about Beyonce and her bump and now her "post-baby" body are still very much divided. I will say that Bey looked tired to me – very much like a new mom who needed a night out. As for her figure… well, you decide. Is this a woman who gave birth six weeks ago? Duchess Kate wears brown Orla Kiely for an Oxford visit: adorable or tacky? Posted: 21 Feb 2012 05:54 AM PST Oh, Duchess Kate is going to work her fingers to the bone! Kate has done yet another royal gig – since Prince William left for the Falklands, she's averaging one a week, isn't she? It's not a breakneck pace, but it's still better then she's ever done before. These are photos of Kate visiting The Art Room today in Oxford, England. Kate wore shades of cream and chocolate – her dress is by Irish designer Orla Kiely, and the print is allegedly "doves". Kate paired the dress with brown tights and brown ankle booties, with her hair down of course. Her raccoon eye makeup seems more subdued, as does her usually overdone sausage curls. Maybe she's relaxing a bit? Here's more about Kate's visit: As a history of art graduate she has always had a passion for the subject. Today the Duchess of Cambridge put her love into practice on her first public engagement as royal patron of The Art Room, which encourages confidence in disadvantaged children. Wearing the now sold-out Birdie jacquard shirt dress by designer Orla Kiely with brown opaque tights and brown suede ankle boots, Kate, 30, was greeted on her arrival in Oxford by dozens of children waving flags and holding flowers during a short walkabout. The Duchess’s first visit of the day was to Rose Hill Primary School, where she donned a special pinny with the name ‘Miss Catherine’ embroidered on the front. The area is one of the most deprived in the country and of the 340 pupils at the school 48 per cent speak English as a second language and 50 per cent have a special need. Many are challenged by both. The Art Room works with children to increase their self-esteem, self-confidence and independence through art. Many of the children are disengaged from mainstream education, disruptive or withdrawn and all have been identified as needing time away from their school. The charity's emphasis is on teaching life skills while encouraging children and young people to both relate and engage with each other. The Art Room employs senior practitioners who are trained in psychotherapy, art, teaching and social work. The charity currently works in Oxford and in north London. At Rose Hill Primary School, The Duchess of Cambridge will join eight children who will be working on the poem The Owl and The Pussycat by Edward Lear. This is a poem that The Art Room uses regularly to incorporate literacy and to discuss travel, relationships, fantasy and ultimately a good way of getting the children to talk. The children will be painting part of the story that they wish to represent onto a canvas. The Duchess will have the opportunity to talk to all the children as well as observe how The Art Room uses ‘art as therapy’ to help the children manage their difficulties and challenges and help them to communicate and ultimately to re-engage into mainstream education. The Duchess of Cambridge became Patron of The Art Room in January 2012. Later she will visit another Art Room project at the Oxford Spires Academy School. The round-table session will begin with a presentation by two teenage graduates of The Art Room. The Duchess will then be invited to take part in a training session and round-table discussion about what art as therapy is. Juli Beatie, who founded the charity ten years ago, said she was thrilled by the Duchess’ s patronage: ‘It is overwhelming. Lindsay Lohan allegedly scores the Elizabeth Taylor part, with a cracked-out caveat Posted: 21 Feb 2012 05:30 AM PST On Sunday, it was announced that Lindsay Lohan would be hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live in early March. The announcement spelled crack disaster for one and for all, and I can't even imagine what Lorne Michaels was even thinking. Lindsay, of course, used the promise of this gig to begin her cracked-out re-launch. God, how many re-launches has this crackhead had? She screws it up every single time. She'll mess up, she'll claim that she's changed, she'll try to re-launch herself and then she messes up again. Rinse and tweak and repeat. Anyway, this is what Team Crackie pushed to Radar yesterday: With Lindsay Lohan’s legal woes seemingly coming to an end, the actress is ready to step back in front of the camera and get back to work, and on March 3, she'll be hosting Saturday Night Live, and her rep tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that she is very excited about appearing on the revered NBC late night show. “Lindsay has been a longtime fan of Saturday Night Live and is incredibly excited to host the show and work with the amazing cast and writers,” her rep, Steve Honig tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Lindsay will appear in a Los Angeles courtroom this week for a progress hearing in her misdemeanor theft case and will receive a glowing report. The Mean Girls star, 25, has completed 15 days of court ordered community service at the Los Angeles County Morgue, and 5 therapy sessions, as part of her probation requirements stemming from her no contest plea in the necklace theft case. “Lindsay is on track and doing very well in fulfilling all terms of her probation, completing her community service at the morgue and her therapy. She is focused and committed to putting this part of her life behind her,” a source close to the actress tells RadarOnline.com. This could be the beginning of a long anticipated comeback that Lohan and her fans have anticipated. “Lindsay just wants to get back to work. She is almost done with her community service and she is ahead of schedule in finishing before the March 29 deadline. Talks are still underway for her to play Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime biopic movie, and she is hopeful that the deal will be signed soon,” an insider tells RadarOnline.com. Anyway, I wanted to make a note of that Radar article because that was published early Monday morning – and the claim was that Lohan was still "in talks" to play Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie. Nevermind that Crackie has been telling everybody that she's got the part and never mind the Terry Richardson photos where LL poses in a Liz Taylor sweatshirt. So, just hours later, Access Hollywood reported this: Lindsay Lohan has more than just her upcoming hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" to celebrate – she's scored the role of Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime TV movie, "Liz and Dick," a source tells Access Hollywood's Billy Bush. But, there is one legal-related caveat: Lindsay needs to stay on the right side of court. According to the source, if Lohan continues to stick to the judge's orders, as she has been doing, she will be playing the "Cleopatra" beauty in the Lifetime made-for-TV film about the late actress. The project, helmed by producer Larry Thompson, has been in development since May 2011. Following a string of recent legal woes, the 25-year-old appeared in the January/February issue of Playboy. She was last seen on the big screen in "Machete" in 2010 and on the small screen in 2009's TV movie "Labor Pains." She will host "Saturday Night Live" on March 3.
