True Blood finale: has it jumped the shark or left you anxious for more?

This week’s True Blood, the season four finale, was chock full of plot. More than that it had plenty of clever one liners that provided some excellent comic relief for the more serious moments. I kind of felt like most of the plot was rehashed from past seasons, and that the Marnie witch character was too similar to the Maenid nonsense we saw in season two. It was basically a “when will this bitch die?” plotline, with Marnie’s ghost hanging on way too long to wreak havoc. I’m going to do a half-assed recap here. Instead of going over every detail, I’ll just focus on the awesome lines that cracked me up and added the campiness of this show. I love it, basically, but I see it for what it is, and I feel like producers are letting us know that’s ok, and that they’ll continue to deliver it for us. They did that with some of the best lines this season. Here are some of my favorites from the finale:

marnielafayettelol
The best lines from the True Blood finale (SPOILERS)

Hoyt to Jason on his admission that he slept with Jessica, “How?”
Jason to Hoyt “If you really want to know, missionary then doggy then her on top. It was nothing too kinky.”

Arlene to Sookie on her Halloween costume: “Zombies are the new vampires.”

Jesus to Lafayette possessed with Marnie’s ghost. “I agree with you. Vampires suck!… You can’t trade magic like f*ckin Pokemon cards!” He then proceeds to do just that, and give up his evil demon self to the Marnie ghost, dying in the process.

Arlene to her kids on Halloween. “You better start behaving yourselves right now or you’re going to be Trick or Treating down at the trailer park again. Now do you want a bag of empty coors cans and food stamps or do you want candy?”

Scott Foley is introduced as a new character, an old war buddy of Terry’s. Terry says to him “I heard you were dead.” He answers, “I heard you were crazy.”

“Well yeah that’s still true.”

Sookie asks Holly if she’s ever cast a serious spell like the one she’s going to attempt to save the vampires from Marnie’s ghost. “Goddess no, usually I just light a candle and ask the spirits to make sure my boys don’t end up in jail or knock somebody up, but so far that’s worked out ok.”

Bill to Eric when they’re strung up silvered on the stake by Marnie. “I liked you better when you were brain damaged.”

Lafayette as Marnie in a muumuu, “What goes around comes around, bitches.”

Eric to the group after Marnie is sent to the spirit world and Tara is tending to Lafayette. “Excuse me, we’re feeling a little crispy up here.”

Jessica to Jason. “I don’t want to be your girlfriend… I just got out of a serious relationship… I’m not ready to commit to you.”

“I kind of wish you would have told me that, before I took an ass kicking.”

Pam on losing Eric to Sookie: “I’m so over Sookie and her precious fairy vagina and her unbelievably stupid name. F*ck Sookie.”

“I’ve been with Eric for over 100 years. I’ve watched him seduce supermodels and princesses and spit on their bones when he’s finished. How can someone named Sookie take him away from me?”

Sookie breaks up with Eric and Bill: “There’s only one way I see this ending, and it’s me walking away with neither of you.”

Jesus’ ghost to Lafayette: “Dude I’m dead, you’re a medium. I’ll always be with you.”

Jessica to Jason on the sex they just had. “I liked it, I liked it a lot. Maybe next time we could try oral? Hoyt was kind of shy about that, because of my fangs.”

Jason understands why Jessica is reluctant to drink his blood. “You know, it’s kind of like a hooker with kissing…

“You’re like no other woman I’ve been with, and I’ve been with a lot of women. ”

Eric to Nan Flanagan and her posse “Hi Nan, and gay stormtroopers.”

Nan Flanagan on being fired from the American Vampire League. “I’ve been alive for 816 years. I refuse to be retired like a fat first wife.”

Eric, after he and Bill kill Nan. “What a bitch.”

The stuff where Eric and Bill offed Nan reminded me of when Bill killed the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne. Also, there weren’t any quotable lines at the end when Sookie accidentally killed what’s-her-face, Debbie. The episode just ended with Sookie holding a gravely injured Tara and screaming out. “somebody please help us, somebody!” In the parallel scene in the books, it’s just Sookie and Debbie, with Tara having nothing to do with it. It makes you wonder if they’re going to kill off Tara’s character, which I wouldn’t mind, honestly, or if one of the vamps is going to whisk in and save Tara. I think Eric gave Tara his blood in the books in some other incident, but I don’t remember it too clearly. She’s still alive in the last book I read.

Also, there were some nice scenes and lines about trusting your heart. Alcide made a really lame plea for Sookie’s love by saying he wanted to go with his head instead of his heart. He said “People always say follow your heart… What if our hearts can’t be trusted? What if it’s our brains we should be listening to?” Then when all the spirits in the cemetery got resurrected by Holly’s spell, Sookie’s grandmother came back temporarily from the other world to tell her that “[The answers where it always is, your heart. Being alone ain't nothing to be afraid of, my Sookie. We're all alone at the end.” Maybe that’s why they’re killing off her best friend, so we can see Sookie truly alone for once, but we’ll have to wait for next season to see. True Blood has been renewed for a fifth season, so there’s sure to be more obnoxious one-liners and campy plots for us to enjoy.

Rachel Weisz in Jason Wu in Toronto: gorgeous or bland?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 08:24 AM PDT

wenn3506538

Rachel Weisz is in Toronto too, to promote yet another new movie. I feel like she has half a dozen films coming out! This one is called The Deep, Blue Sea, and I'll discuss it in a moment. Let's talk about fashion first. Rachel wore Jason Wu, one of her favorite designers, to the Toronto premiere. Thoughts on the Wu? I feel like Rachel has problems with color. Sure, she looks amazing in red, but when she veers into blues, greys and greens, the shades tends wash her out? Doesn't her skin look kind of weird here? But if you just showed me the dress, I would like it. I do love her makeup and her hair, though. All in all, not the worst look at all.

Rachel walked the red carpet with her costar, Tom Hiddleston. No Daniel Craig! BOO. Maybe they're waiting for the Dream House premiere to walk the red carpet together. God, that will be so, so hot. I can't wait. As for Tom - he seems kind of geeky and odd. Do you girls get hot for him? I can't see it. As for the film, The Deep, Blue Sea is about a woman in her 40s (Weisz) who leaves her husband to embark on a torrid affair. Gee, art imitating life much? Here's part of The Hollywood Reporter's review:

So entirely immersive is Terence Davies’ desire to recreate and analyze the ethos of post-World War II Britain that not only has he fulfilled his ambition to refashion Terence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea, but he has created a theoretical sequel to Noel Coward and David Lean’s Brief Encounter in the bargain. As intensely personal and deeply felt as it is, however, Davies’ attempt to breathe new life into Rattigan’s 1952 play is a rather bloodless, suffocating thing, lent tragic passion more by its use of Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto than by anything achieved by his star Rachel Weisz and her leading man. Limited release in sophisticated world markets awaits.

The author of such well-carpentered post-war studies of English repression as The Winslow Boy, The Browning Version and Separate Tables, Rattigan passed out of fashion in the 1960s but, after his death in 1977, his reputation began a rebirth with Karel Reisz’s London revival of The Deep Blue Sea, which centers upon a woman, pushing past 40, who leaves her wealthy older husband for her first passionate relationship. The cast of the original London production was headed by Peggy Ashcroft, while Margaret Sullavan starred in the Broadway version in 1953 and, two years later, Vivien Leigh appeared in the somewhat sluggish but still involving first film version directed by Anatole Litvak.

In fact, the beginnings of the 1955 screen adaptation and this new one are virtually identical, crane shots that start on the street and move up and into the window of the modest rented flat of Hester Collyer (Weisz), who has just stated in voice-over that, "This time I really do want to die." In the original, Hester is found, alive, after her suicide attempt but, here, we watch as she turns on the gas and waits for her misery to end.

Davies then flashes back to a scene that essentially recreates the ending of Brief Encounter; Hester sits, entirely bored, at home with her older husband, high court judge Sir William Collyer (Simon Russell Beale), as she silently wells while up thinking about her young lover, the dashing former RAF pilot Freddie Page (Tom Hiddleston).

As Hester recovers from her desperate act, she is tended to by neighbors, including a would-be doctor with a mysterious past, while summoning memories of her sexual awakening, leaving her caring but unexciting husband, putting up with Freddie’s emotional wavering and eventual decision to move on, and Hester’s consideration of another suicide attempt.

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

Basically, it's a quiet period film, a throwback to the "women's films" of the 1950s, and it's kind of depressing. The film is getting mixed reviews. Here's a scene:

George Clooney didn’t want Stacy Keibler hanging on him all night

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:47 AM PDT

wenn3507443

Well, following the "debut" of George Clooney's new official piece, Stacy Keibler, we now have multiple reports of how loved-up they were together in Toronto. So, this is how it went: Stacy and George arrive in Toronto together, there are multiple sightings of them hanging out, and even one photo of the two of them sipping champagne (that photo later got pulled under mysterious circumstances). Then Stacy isn't invited to the pre-party for The Ides of March, but she is invited to the premiere, but she has to walk the red carpet solo, before George even gets there. Then, over the next few days, she gets her tenuous girlfriend roll-out as she and Clooney are spotted together in the same frame, in the same time and place, leaving one of the parties. And now we have insider dish on what Stacy and George were like inside the parties:

When George Clooney showed up at the Venice Film Festival sans Stacey Keibler, and a posse including Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, word was that his relationship with the former pro wrestler had faded. But Clooney and Keibler put rumors of a cooling-off to rest at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Clooney was spotted Saturday night with the blond bombshell on his arm, and the duo engaged in plentiful PDA. After Clooney's film "The Descendants" screened, the two stopped by a Fox Searchlight and Vanity Fair fete, and then wound up at the Grey Goose and Soho House Pop-Up Lounge, a temporary club for the festival housed in an industrial space.

Spies saw Clooney "rubbing Keibler's back" and "sharing a plate of food." The couple hung with Bono, while Keira Knightley and boyfriend James Righton lounged on a nearby couch together. They were joined by Ryan Gosling, Anna Faris, Evan Rachel Wood, Jon Hamm and Kirsten Dunst as the night wore on.

[From Page Six]

E! News says that "they came together" to the Vanity Fair party for The Descendents, but "there wasn’t a ton of PDA because they were both doing their own thing, but she did come back to him every once in awhile…George and Stacey looked really happy and left together, as well." Hm…interesting. She was off doing her own thing while Clooney did the glad-handing and such. Usually he likes his pieces close to him, and silent. Us Weekly has yet another version of Stacy's "own thing":

Stacy Keibler isn’t just George Clooney’s arm candy. The former wrestler, 31, attended two parties Saturday night in Toronto, Ontario with her new 50-year-old beau. First the duo hit up Fox Searchlight, Belvedere and Vanity Fair’s Toronto Film Festival bash, then ventured to the Grey Goose Soho House party. At both fetes, Keibler was perfectly comfortable with the Hollywood crowd.

“One of the recurring themes of the night was that Stacy had her own conversations going on and that she wasn’t following Clooney around like a puppy dog,” a source tells Us Weekly.

“They were comfortable and affectionate and seemed socially poised as a couple,” a witness tells Us. “The two clearly work not only as a pair, but also independently. [Stacy] really stood on her own. George was not overprotective and didn’t have to look after her.”

“She was confident in her own space,” adds the witness. “She would come over to [George] and rub his back, then separate from him again… I’ve never seen him more comfortable.”

Clooney split with his Italian actress/model girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis in late June — amid talk that she was anxious to marry and have a child, while he resented her attention-hogging habits.

Since their split, Canalis, 32, has found her way back into the spotlight as a contestant on season 13 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

[From Us Weekly]

You know what I find amusing? Stacy is being positioned as a genuine celebrity in her own right, like she knows all of the A-listers at the party, she's friendly with them and she can go off and do her own thing because she's just as famous and popular as George, and, like, everybody wants to meet the world-famous Stacy Keibler, right? Yeah… NO. If George wasn't debuting her as his girlfriend, no one would give a crap. She wouldn't have even been let into the party. I feel kind of bad for her - I feel like she's forcing it? I also feel like the chick is busted. This weekend was one of the biggest nights of her life, her debut as George Clooney's girlfriend, and this is how her makeup looks? This is how she dresses? This is her hair weave/rat's nest ball? Busted.

Kate Gosselin “to be a good parent is to work hard & give them the best opportunities”

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:07 AM PDT

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Tonight is the finale of Kate Plus 8 and we would be dancing around to Wizard of Oz tunes if it weren’t for Kate’s eight kids, who now have to directly deal with the wrath that is their piece of work, germaphobe mom instead of having a camera crew act as human shields. I’ve set my DVR to record tonight’s finale and will be dutifully reporting the worst parts. Kate’s nastiness on the last second-to-last episode got lambasted by Anderson Cooper, and The Soup also did a great job of mocking Kate over the weekend. It just makes me wonder what producers saved for us in the final episode. You know they have been covering for her for years and probably have a ton of footage they’ve saved of her acting awful.

So Kate talked to Matt Lauer on the Today Show this morning. (NBC and TLC are both owned by the same company.) She made a bunch of the same bullsh*t comments we’ve heard from her to date about how she’s been providing for her kids, but she took it a little further this time and we got to see how entitled she is and how she considers good parenting to be the same as making money. It didn’t come as a surprise I guess, but I still found it revealing.

byekate1

On the end of her show
It was not a surprise… obviously ratings and everything else. So I braced myself and here we are.

On if she will get back to a “normal life” Matt said that “living in front of cameras is not normal”
There is some relief, but there is sadness because it’s the end of an era. I feel sad for my kids because of all of the opportunities that they’re now questioning what’s going to happen. I feel sad for fans because they’re devastated. They’re saying you know ‘you’re the neighbor moving far away and we won’t see you again.’

On how this is her career now
There’s also fear because this has been maybe not my career, it has been the start, essentially of my career and my job and the way I’ve been providing for my kids for six years so it is a little scary.

On Jon saying he’s relieved that the show is ending, she calls him “mediocre”
It’s a situation where Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids and working a regular job and I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities, not unlike every parent.

I think that to be a good parent is to work as hard as you can and give them the best opportunities in life. This has provided that.

It sounds as if you are keeping the door open to continue to work in television.
I think at this point the best opportunity for all of us would be me continuing in TV as a way to provide for my kids…

On if she would put her kids on reality TV again
If the right thing came along, I’m sure we are all in agreeance [sic] on it. I’m sure you will see my kids again at some point.

On the fight with the nanny
That trip was so much even more stressful than you saw… there was so much more unplanned drama. That was a situation where many people have had family vacations you just don’t see it on camera… I’ve apologized.

byekate2
At the end of the interview, Kate thanked TLC and the head of Discovery Communications. Then she plugged her new website, KatePlusMy8.com It’s not ready yet, though. How much do you want to bet that she majorly pissed off her web designer and they’re deliberating holding up the website launch?

Look, Kate said it all when she said that being a good parent is working hard to provide for her kids. Kate’s idea of good parenting is not being there for her kids, it’s not understanding what’s going on with them, relating to them or working with them to make sure they’re healthy, well adjusted little people, it’s making money, being rich and ignoring them except to bark out orders. She’ll continue to do that as long as she’s enabled. Here’s hoping she doesn’t get that gig with The Talk.

Michael Fassbender brought Zoe Kravitz to Toronto: they’re back together?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:05 AM PDT

wenn3507207

I don't even want to talk about this. I'm so disappointed and disheartened. SOB. Michael Fassbender and Zoe Kravitz are either A) Still a couple, having never broken up in the first place or B) Back together after a few months-long split that saw Zoe dating several B-listers, unworthy of following in the footsteps of the Fassdong (mixed metaphor, but whatever, that's how upset I am). According to LaineyGossip's Twitter feed, Zoe Kravitz was in Toronto last night with Michael at the after-party for Shame. Michael flew into Toronto straight from his Venice Film Festival victory as Best Actor - he missed the promotional rounds for A Dangerous Method, but he's the centerpiece of Shame, and he needed to be there. But instead of hearing about The Fassdong's triumphant showing amongst hot Canadian girls, we now have reports that Zoe and Fassie are back together:

Breaking: Zoe Kravitz is here with Michael Fassbender at #VitaminWater rooftop. #TIFF2011

Michael Fassbender’s plus 1 is Zoe Kravitz. Zoe Kravitz’s plus 1 is Maeby from Arrested Development Ali Shawkat. #TIFF2011

Really enjoyed watching Michael Fassbender walk by w/ Zoe Kravitz holding on his back, grooving her hips @VitaminWater_ca rooftop

[From Lainey's Twitter]

So, WTF happened? First it seemed like Zoe and Fassie were already petering out by the time X-Men: First Class premiered early this summer. And then Fassbender flew to England and Scotland, where he was working on Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and Zoe stayed in NYC. Then, in July, there were suddenly all of these sightings of Zoe with Penn Badgley - they seemed to be going on dinner and movie dates, and then Zoe was spotted with some former child star (who many of us thought was one of her gays, but STILL). Us Weekly even seemed to confirm the split, claiming that Zoe was "figuring things out" with Fassie, and that things weren't "black and white". My unfortunate theory: I think they probably "took a break" while Michael was working in the UK, and Zoe used some of her male friends to make him jealous and it worked. I can't believe it worked. I'm so disappointed.

These are some photos of Michael in Toronto for Shame, plus some photos of Zoe doing the rounds during NY Fashion Week on Saturday. So… she didn't get invited to Venice, but she gets an invite to Toronto? Hmm. Oh, and that person holding a sign which reads "Ich liebe dich" - that means "I love you" not "I love dick" as I originally thought. If I ever wait outside for Fassie, I'll totally hold up a sign that says "I love dick."

Jennifer Garner, pregnant in Yves Saint Laurent: too sack-like or lovely?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 06:21 AM PDT

fp_7867041_pinkparty_hollyw
I used to really like and admire Jennifer Garner. This became a minor issue between Kaiser and me because she finds Garner understandably annoying. Then I saw the totally unnecessary remake of Arthur, in which Garner starred. (It was on a plane, and I was in the cheap seats so it’s not like I had my choice of films.) Garner’s Susan character was incredibly obnoxious, and she played it straight so that you had no sense of sympathy for her whatsoever. This is in comparison to the parts played by Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, who did the best they could with the material. So does that make Garner a great actress or a not-so-likable one? I don’t know, but she bugged me like she was supposed to, and then Garner the person said some kind of clueless stuff about motherhood being a woman’s greatest want. After that I was like “meh, I get what Kaiser is saying.” I still like Garner, but she’s like Reese Witherspoon to me now. I can see how hard she tries to sell her image, even if it’s not so far from reality.

Anyway Garner is pregnant, and we don’t know how far along she is but she made the announcement about three weeks ago, so it’s three or four months by now probably. This will be her third child with husband Ben Affleck, and they said in the announcement they’re of course “thrilled” to have another one. There’s a lot of talk that they’re hoping for a boy after two girls, but I’m sure that whatever gender baby they have they’ll still be overjoyed.

wenn3506715
Garner is shown here Saturday at the Pink Party to raise money for Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Program. She was the host at the event. Her dress is kind of sack-like, but I get that she’s pregnant and wants to feel comfortable. I’m not a fan of YSL’s ready to wear line, after having just looked through their insanely expensive clothing on the Neiman Marcus website and their website. I prefer empire waist gowns on pregnant ladies, but they get a pass always so I’ll try not to nitpick. The dark pink reddish color is beautiful and I love her hair and makeup. She matched her lipstick to the color of her dress and it doesn’t look too matchy, just perfect. She’s really lovely here. I still like her, but I’m not a big fan anymore, you know?

Salma Hayek’s metallic boobs in McQueen: busted, budget or cute?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:56 AM PDT

wenn3505069

I feel like we haven't heard from Salma Hayek in a while. It's been about a month, right? Yes, it has. The first weeks of August were lousy with reports that Salma's husband had fathered Linda Evangelista's son, and if you look at the actual timeline of the pregnancy, you see that Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma were in some stage of togetherness when he was boning Linda. Still, Salma loves her billionaire husband, and so she's stuck by him, through thick and thin. They did a photo op just days after Linda asked for $46,000 a month in child support, and then Salma also appeared on the cover of Allure - where she claimed she had never gotten anything done to her face.

So now for the new photos - Salma is in Toronto, promoting her film Americano. Her dress is McQueen, and I really dislike it. It's not that I don't believe Salma's rack should showered in gold. I just don't think her rack should be showered in this budget-looking gold-metallic detailing. It looks like part of a pirate's costume. Plus, this mustardy color is doing Salma no favors. And her hair sucks too. And look at her eyebrows…? They look really unkempt. This is just a bad look, and Salma looks really thin and tired to me.

As for the film, it sounds interesting, although pretty depressing. It's about a youngish man sorting out his life after his mother's death, and he seeks out a family friend, played by Salma, who works at a strip club in Tijuana. You can read more about the film here.

Jennifer Lopez went on a date with…. Bradley Cooper?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:36 AM PDT

r royals bafta 110711
TMZ is reporting that Jennifer Lopez was spotted out on a date with none other than serial dater Bradley Cooper. The way they phrase this makes it sound like they heard it from a “source” (aka a publicist) trying to get the news out. It’s hard to remember all the women that Bradley Cooper has allegedly dated. Of course he was in a long term relationship with Renee Zellweger, but since splitting with her earlier this year he’s been linked with his sort-of ex, Jennifer Aniston, he seems to have dated Olivia Wilde, and we heard rumors about possible flings with Zoe Saldana and Jessica Biel. I’m probably forgetting someone in there.

Anyway Bradley was seen out in NY having a romantic dinner with Jennifer Lopez. There’s no doubt that it wasn’t a group situation or something like that, and it sounds like a temporary match made in publicist heaven.

Jennifer Lopez might be moving on from hubby Marc Anthony in a big way — because last night she went out on a date with Bradley Cooper … TMZ has learned.

We’re told the two hit up Per Se, a restaurant located at Columbus Circle in New York City. We’re told the dinner was “romantic” and was just the two of them.

[From TMZ]

In no way does Lopez seem like Cooper’s type at all, especially if he was almost ready to settle down with Zellweger. Renee is shy, humble and kind and has talked about how she hates fame. (Although she definitely seems to be warming up to it recently.) J.Lo is basically a flashy “look at me” famewhore and a diva. Still, there are plenty of men who don’t seem to have a type. If Cooper really is the ladies’ man that his people would have us believe, I could see him willingly going on a date or two with Lopez. They seem like such a mismatch to me though. This is Lopez wanting to make her ex jealous, and Cooper’s people wanting to keep his name in the press. They’ve been trying to make him happen since he was first linked to Jennifer Aniston in 2007. Judging from the success of Limitless, it seems to have worked.

‘Spartacus’ star Andy Whitfield has passed away at the age of 39

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:26 AM PDT

wenn2716713

It's always sad when a talented young man is cut down in his prime. But isn't it a little extra sad when the guy is really hot too? Andy Whitfield, star of the television series Spartacus, has lost his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was diagnosed last year, and I honestly thought he was in remission. People Magazine reports that the lymphoma "reoccurred" though. He was 39.

Andy Whitfield, who starred in TV’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand – only to leave the show to treat a recurrence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma – died Sunday of the disease at age 39.

The actor’s wife Vashti said in a statement that the “beautiful young warrior” died on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife,” the Associated Press reports.

Born in Wales and a resident of Australia, Whitfield was preparing for a second season in September 2010 when he announced that he would not be returning to the Starz series so he could undergo aggressive cancer treatment. He was replaced by actor Liam McIntyre.

In Whitfield’s statement, he said, “It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey.”

[From People]

By all reports, Whitfield was a really lovely guy, adored and respected by his coworkers, friends and family. It's such a loss for Hollywood, for the people who loved him, and for his fans. So sad.

Keira Knightley in lace Elie Saab: lovely or sad and doily-fug?

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 04:33 AM PDT

wenn5717885

I avoided writing about the promotional rounds for A Dangerous Method at the Toronto Film Festival because my Michael Fassbender wasn't there. He had to pull out of the promotion at the last minute to run back to Venice and collect his Best Actor trophy! So Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley were in Toronto to represent the film. It's not that I dislike either of them - okay, well, Keira plucks my nerves sometimes, but I give her the benefit of the doubt more than some people. Viggo just seems kind of bland to me these days. He's nice and everything, but with the Fassdong hanging around, who can pay attention to Viggo? Alas, Vincent Cassel didn't come to Toronto either. Boo!

wenn3503930

So, it was the Viggo and Keira Show, and my, don't they look friendly. They looked very touchy-feely and friendly during the Venice round too, I just never mentioned it because… you know, The Fassdong. But here they are, giving each other little looks and holding hands. Do I think they've ever boned? I don't know. I think Viggo might be friendly with everybody, and maybe he's just trying to get the always-morose Keira to brighten up and smile. Or maybe he's trying to get into her pants. I have no idea. I do know that Keira brought her boyfriend, James Righton, to Toronto. Keira started up with James about two seconds after she and Rupert Friend split.

wenn3503918

Keira wore a colorful Wren dress for the press conference and photo call, and then she switched into the pinkish-beige lace Elie Saab for the Toronto premiere. I like the colorful Wren - Keira's "casual-wear" has been very good lately. The Elie Saab is kind of meh to me. It reminds me of the spectacular gold lace Valentino she wore in Venice, but the comparison isn't fair to the Saab. The Valentino was a revelation - the Saab looks like a doily.

Keira, Viggo, Fassbender and Cronenberg also covered the most recent issue of The Hollywood Reporter. The story is just the insider-industry version of how the film got made - you can read it here. There's also a new poster for the film, with Keira's big head still dominating everything. MORE FASSBENDER, PLS.
