Video: Watch A Young Donald Glover Freestyle In A College Dorm

Before he was Childish Gambino, Donald Glover was just a kid in an NYU dorm freestyling over some dweebs playing AC/DC on guitar. In this video, taken in 2004, Donald and his buddy Chaz Kangas take turns rapping over “Back in Black” in the basement the school’s Goddard Hall.

The video was released by Chaz who’s kept the thing under wraps for years. It’s a good time to release it as Childish Gambino’s second album, Camp, come out next week. We’re super excited about that record, and we’re also pysched to check out more from Chaz Kangas, especially is he works in some more Olsen Twins references.

Man, now I’m nostalgic for college. Although the white kids rapping at my school didn’t quite produce this same caliber material.

Celebrity Lookalikes: Eva Mendes Looks Just Like Amy Winehouse In Her New Film Holly Motors

This is Eva Mendes on the set of her latest film, a French drama called Holly Motors that’s shooting in (appropriately) Paris. The film is about a man who travels between parallel lives where he’s alternately a murderer, a CEO, and a monster. According to Wikipedia, Eva’s character is known simply as “an actress”; co-star Kylie Minogue gets the same billing.

But doesn’t Eva look a whole lot like deceased singer Amy Winehouse? Like, freakishly so—from the cat-eye makeup to the side-bang on her massive beehive. Even her costume resembles the singer’s eclectic fashion sense.

Judging from the resemblance and the Wiki credit, we wonder if Holly Motors is meant to be some sort of meta tale where we see a version of Winehouse. Maybe even one who lived? That’s probably taking it much further than the filmmakers intended, but it would be cool.

Video: Hugh Grant Testifies Against Phone-Hacking British Tabloids

English rom-com star Hugh Grant is one of the celebrities carrying on a crusade against the tabloids — from his home country, no less — The Daily Mail and News of the World, which shamelessly tapped celebrities’ phones in order to get juicier scoops. Several months ago, he wrote a guest piece for a publication wherein he secretly recorded his conversation with a paparazzo, and a few days ago he testified in the Leveson Inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal.

In the videos below (a total of about five minutes), Hugh lays out what his life was like after getting arrested with a Hollywood prostitute in 1995. Although he understood that the press would descend upon him to prise out every grisly detail, he admits that because he had left Hollywood to return home to England, he expected slightly less intrusive treatment.

For instance, he popped out of his flat one day, and it had been broken into. Then, a detailed account of his apartment was published. The craziest part, Hugh reflects, is “I remember thinking, Who told them that? Was that the burglar, or was that the police?”

The press became even more invasive earlier this year, when the press followed his girlfriend Tinglan Hong around during her pregnancy.

Hugh isn’t the only famous face testifying; while Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, Sienna Miller and J.K. Rowling will offer their own experiences and insights. Hugh’s contemporary Steve Coogan also testified, sharing his war stories of how one writer went back on his promise to omit salacious details about an affair Steve had had; and later how a former NotW staffer alerted him to a “sting” that then-editor Andy Coulson had set up.

Although most often we see the fame-whore kind of celebrities as the ones who get mixed up with the paparazzi — and we’re glad to blame them for inviting that attention in the first place — it’s fantastic to see actual celebrities like Hugh and Steve using their clout to testify in court against the depths to which these journalists have sunk.

Is it wild romantic gestures and traipses to exotic locations? Nope, it seems to be the couple’s television. E! asked Nicole plan to spend their upcoming one-year anniversary, and here’s what she had to say:

“Well his dream day is probably watching football and playing video games, and my dream day is watching Real Housewives, so maybe that will be our one-year [celebration]. We’ll do a game in the day and then Housewives at night.”

Really, those are their dream days? I guess love comes in all shapes, sizes, and proclivities for trashing TV programming. As for Thanksgiving, the two are hosting for their two families:

“I have a big family on my side, Joel has a big family, so we’re having everybody over at my house and it’s going to be extremely chaotic but so much fun.”

Our 5 Favorite Quotes From The Pete & Pete Reunion

One of the most memorable Nickelodeon shows from the ’90s was The Adventures of Pete & Pete, about two redheaded brothers with the same name, their mom with a plate in their head, and the world’s strongest man, Artie. Pete & Pete made it into Nick’s The ’90s Are All That resurrection on TeenNick, but here’s another treat: The cast and crew of the show had a mini reunion at LA’s Cinefamily last weekend!

Co-creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi discussed how the show — which ran for three seasons — started out as a bevy of sixty-second short films. They were irreverent from the start, yet at the time they had the freedom to make the show for themselves with no expectation of, and no way of checking if, people were actually watching. Also in attendance were stars Mike Maronna and Danny Tamberelli, who shared on-set stories. We’ve included the two videos below, but here are our favorite quotes from the reunion.

1. McRobb on giving Nickelodeon’s viewers the kinds of stories they would tell their friends:

“I think originally the show began as sixty-second commercials for Nickelodeon, and the idea at the time was just to capture what it was to be a kid from a certain perspective. If you’ve seen the sixty, you know this is storytelling, the way kids tell stories, just completely stream of consciousness, works within its own logic and it goes by really fast and you don’t even remember half of it because there are just so many details.”

2. Considering that the show aired in the mid-90s, we get why the creators were so excited when they discovered they had an Internet presence.McRobb says,

“I remember we found a website for the show and were all, ‘Really? That’s fantastic!’ [Then they said,] ‘Yeah, there’s also a website for Big Gulp.’ I guess that puts it in perspective for you.”

3. Viscardi reflected on their first time shooting with Danny Tamberelli, where the last shot of one of the films required him to be buried up to his neck in the backyard and bark out, “Where’s my money?” As he explains,

“The time comes… He’s not saying anything. When you shoot on-location, you have to deal with a plane flying overhead [while] the kid’s in the hole, his parents are waiting, the kid’s in the hole, clouds come over, we’re pacing, the kid’s in the hole. We start shooting, and Danny says his line, ‘Where’s my money?’ She says, ‘Say it again.’ ‘Where‘s my money?’ Then she says, ‘Faster!’ ‘Where’smymoney?’ ‘Angrier!’ ‘Where‘s my money!‘ ’Slower!’ ‘Where’s… my… money?’ ‘Sadder!’ ‘Where’s my money?’ On and on and on, for like two minutes, and I’m thinking, ‘Get that goddamn kid out of the hole!’ She yells ‘Cut’ and we pull Danny out of the hole, and he says, ‘That was awesome.’ I remember saying to Will, ‘We can do anything we want with that kid.’”

4. When asked how he and Danny related to the two Petes, Mike Maronna revealed a new theory he’d developed:

“I figured out that I was Will’s avatar, and Danny was Chris’ avatar, and that Allison was Catherine’s avatar.”

However, Chris argued that Will actually relates more to little Pete; both agreed that big Pete is the source of the show’s nostalgia.

5. And a final line from McRobb to make you all tear up:

“We were writing for a certain kind of kid, and I guess it was all you folks here today. We were writing for a certain kid that was maybe, um, felt like he was a little weird himself and wasn't really sure how to express that or if it was okay to express that. And we wanted to find that kid and show him our show and say, ‘It's okay.’”

Can these guys go on tour and take their reunion around the country? Their loyal fans are flung all over and would love the opportunity to re-meet the kids they grew up with, and the adults who defined their childhoods.

Though we’ve got only a week or so left, November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, where thousands of people around the world endeavor to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. That’s about 1,667 words a day, and it is not easy. Sure, many of you will take advantage of Thanksgiving break to hit the home stretch, but in case you’re in need of further incentive, we’ve found an amazing app called Written? Kitten!

The way it works is, for every 100 words you write, a photo of a kitten will pop up to cheer you on! You can also up the counter to 200, 500, or even 1,000, if you’re a real sadist and want to challenge yourself to write thousands of words. Here’s an example of what it looks like; ignore my ramblings, I was just trying to up the word counter.

Plus, it’ll save your words so that you don’t have to start from scratch every time.

The photos come from Flickr searches for “kitten” and “cute.” It’s the opposite of an app like Write or Die, which will punish you with screeching noises or even undoing your work if you allow yourself to get distracted. Someone Bid $23,000 For A Walk-On Role In Ben Stiller’s Next Movie

Neighborhood Watch is Ben Stiller‘s next flick, a drama about a sex offender who’s released from prison and has to grapple with his own morality. Just kidding! It’s a light-hearted comedy with a sci-fi bent co-starring Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn about a small town neighborhood watch committee. And someone has paid $23,000 to score an extra role in the film — all for charity, of course.

The funds from the auction, which started at $20,000 will go to the Stiller Foundation, Ben’s charity for helping underprivileged kids around the world. The movie’s currently filming in Atlanta, so it looks like our lucking auction winner won’t even get to experience Hollywood in all its glory. Maybe he’ll get to play an alien, though!

Aaron Sorkin Might Write The Script For The Steve Jobs Biopic

After blowing us away with The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin is contemplating the life of an even bigger tech idol: Steve Jobs, of course. Sorkin told E! Online, “Sony has asked me to write the movie and it’s something I’m strongly considering… Right now I’m just in the thinking-about-it stages. It’s a really big movie and it’s going to be a great movie no matter who writes it.”

By “thinking about it,” he means that he’s reading Walter Isaccson‘s biography Steve Jobs, which was just published a few weeks ago on October 24. Considering how quickly Isaacson’s book was rushed to the printers after Jobs’ death, you have to wonder if Sony is willing to wait around, or if they’ll want to get cracking on the project ASAP.

I wonder if Sorkin’s frenetic writing style — remember that rapid-fire argument in the beginning of The Social Network? — will actually fit Jobs’ slower, but no less powerful, way of speaking. Consider his speech when introducing the iPad in January 2010:

The thing is, I can’t imagine another screenwriter who’d do it right.

And even if Sorkin does embody the voice of the Apple founder, who will embody him on the big screen? According to a rumor from Now magazine, George Clooney is surprisingly a contender, as is his former ER co-star Noah Wyle. Interestingly, Noah played a young Jobs in the 1999 TV movie The Pirates of Silicon Valley, and was invited to the Macworld expo the same year to imitate Jobs for the audience.
